Chapter Ten : Prometheus Part 1

   Officer Justin's squad car and fire trucks surrounded the smoldering remains of the vacation home.

    Firefighters battled the blaze, containing its spread. Mai and Sarah stood nearby, shaken.

   Officer Justin approached, notebook in hand.

  "If it isn't the dangerous duo. IT Officer Mai and Detective Sarah."

   Sarah took a deep breath. "What are you doing here Justin, I thought you were in Nuuk?"

   "Theres a shortage here so I volunteered. Also someone told me Jamin was within the area a couple of days ago so came to take a look. Damn, what happened here?"

   "We were inside when we saw a man. He ran out, and then...the house exploded", Mai said.

    Sarah added, "We didn't get a good look at his face."

    Officer Justin scribbled notes. "Did you see where he went?"

   Sarah shook her head. "No, we lost him."

   The officer's gaze lingered, sensing omitted details.

   "Anything else you want to tell me?"

   Mai and Sarah exchanged a glance. "No," Sarah said firmly.

   Officer Justin's expression turned thoughtful. "What were you doing here Sarah?"

   " Trying to jog my memory of what happened the night Juke died."

   "You remember anything?", he asked.

   Sarah nodded in refusal.
 
   Officer Justin told them that he would contact them further and then he left.

   Sarah and Mai went back to the hotel to relax. But they couldn't, they were filled with adrenaline. So they decided to read the USB, on it was a single video.

   It was a video of Juke.

   Sarah's expression softened.

   "Okay I think it's working now. Hmm lemme begin. Hey Sar, if you are watching this I'm probably dead and Jamin has gone missing", Juke said.

   "Juke", Sarah said, her tears began to pour. Mai noticed this and held her hand, Sarah squeezed it tightly.

   "I never would have thought I'd leave my family behind this soon. I hope the kids are okay. Was my funeral cool? Hopefully you picked out a nice tux and coffin please Sar my dying wish is that you let my funeral fit look cool."

   Sarah smiled. Mai handled her a tissue to wipe her tears.

   "Okay enough chit chat. There's a lot of bad stuff about to happen Sarah and it's centered around you. You angered someone, someone very scary and powerful. I don't know what you did but whatever it was, she has decided to put an end to you but first she wants  you to suffer a lot. Keep the kids close and don't worry about Jamin he knows what he is doing it is not safe for him to be with you right now because she will come after him."

   Mai pointed out that Juke keeps saying she, she then suggested that "she" could be Medusa.

   " I can't say who anyone on that board is because I know someone has already seen this video or will. Sarah you are in grave danger, follow your instincts and find out whoever is doing this and avenge me. I know you can do it my love. Please you are the only one the kids have."

   Sarah's expression turned serious.

   "Well this is what I had to say. I wished I could tell you now but it would be the end. She'd order us both dead. Tell the girls uh daddy loves them every much, make sure they don't forget about me. Tell Jamin I'm proud of him, I never got to say that. And I love you so much Sar. Succeed like the brave and strong woman I've known you to be."

   Sarah wiped her tears off one more time. It had finally hit her with full force, Juke was really gone and she was alone.

   Mai's laptop flashed and a document appeared on the screen. "The Greeks" was its title and it's content encrypted.

   "Sarah check it out", she said, " Its a file but it's encrypted I can't open it. There's a hint. 'My last gift to you."

   "What does that mean?", Sarah asked.

   "Its a hint to the encryption code. I could just break it but that might take me a while."

  "Try it"

  Mai began to do her computer magic. Her fingers flowed spectacularly  against the keyboard like a pianist playing a symphony. While Mai was doing her work, Sarah slept on her bed in an effort to clear her head but an alarm woke her up.

   It's was the 07:00 pm alarm for her medicine. Sarah reached into her purse and picked up the medicine bag.

  As she was getting medication she remembered how thoughtful Jamin is for giving it to her as a gift.

   Then it hit her!

   "Mai!", she screamed. Mai shock in fear.

   "What's wrong?", she asked.

   "HFCDL", Sarah said, " type that in."

   Mai did as told and the document opened. "How did you know that was the code?"

   Sarah let out a smile. " Jamin gifted me with this because I keep forgetting my medicine."

   "Good kid."

   "So what does it say?"

   Mai went through the entire document and broke it down for Sarah.
 
   " First of all Jamin and Blake are okay they have booked a motel nearby but they don't want to be found. Also the document has the list of the gods we saw on the boards, there's names under each one."

   " I guess those are our suspects", Sarah said.

   "Jamin says here to start with Prometheus."

   "Who's under Prometheus?"

   " Dr. Elijah Thompson, Edith Windsor and John Kings."

   "Damn I wish we still had that board", Sarah said.

  Mai pulled out her phone and showed her the pictures she took. "I took pictures of the thing I thought we might need it."

   Sarah was filled with relief and joy to the extent that she jumped on Mai and they both fell.

   "Thanks Mai", she said, " I'd be dead without you."

   "That is true", Mai agreed.

   "Hey!", Sarah said as she hit Mai.

  "Let me book a flight back home, let's find this Prometheus."
