Sarah walked into her home, dropping her keys onto the counter. She had spent the rest of the day reviewing the security footage and interviewing officers, but her mind kept wandering back to Dr. Lee.Where was she? And why had she disappeared so suddenly?
Sarah poured herself a glass of wine and sat down on the couch, her eyes drifting around the room. She had always trusted Dr. Lee, respected her expertise and her dedication to her work.
But now...now she wasn't so sure.
She thought back to their last conversation, the way Dr. Lee had seemed nervous and on edge. Who really was Dr. Lee?
Sarah's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with possibilities. She needed to find out more about Dr. Lee's disappearance, and she needed to do it now.
She pulled out her phone and dialed a number, waiting for the person on the other end to pick up.
"Hey, Mai," Sarah said, her voice low. "I need you to do something for me."
"What is it?" Mai asked, her voice alert.
"Do you think think you can relate the hacking to Dr. Lee?", Sarah said.
There was a pause on the other end of the line. "Sarah, I don't know if that's possible. We don't even know if Dr. Lee is involved in the breach."
"I know," Sarah said. "But I have a feeling about this. Just see what you can find out, okay?"
Mai sighed. "Okay, fine. Be careful Sarah, if she is behind this then there's no telling what else she can do."
Sarah's eyes narrowed, her grip on the phone tightening. "Don't worry about me, Mai. I can take care of myself."
Sarah thought back to the hypnosis session Dr. Lee had performed on her. She had been skeptical at first, but Dr. Lee's soothing voice and gentle guidance had put her at ease.
But now, Sarah couldn't shake the feeling that Dr. Lee had done something more sinister.
And then there was the trigger word. Fall. If Dr. Lee said that word, Sarah would instantly lose consciousness.
Sarah's heart began to pound as she thought about the implications. She knew she had to do something, but she wasn't sure what.
She pulled out her phone and dialed a number, waiting for the person on the other end to pick up.
"Hey, Laura," Sarah said, trying to sound calm. "I need to ask you something."
Laura's voice was strained on the other end of the line. "Sarah, I'm so glad you called. I'm at the hospital with Jake. He's still in critical condition."
Sarah's heart went out to her sister. "I'm so sorry, Laura. How are you holding up?"
Laura sighed. "I'm managing. But I'm worried about Jake. The doctors say he's going to be okay, but...I don't know. I just feel so helpless."
Sarah felt a pang of guilt for bothering her sister at a time like this. But she knew she had to ask. "Laura, I need to ask you something. You know how Dr. Lee hypnotized me?"
There was a pause on the other end of the line. "Yes...what about it?"
Sarah took a deep breath. "I need to know if it's possible to undo the hypnotic suggestion. Dr. Lee gave me a trigger word...if she says it, I'll lose consciousness."
Laura's voice turned serious. "Sarah, I can help you with that. Specialized in that and I'm confident I can help you undo the suggestion."
Sarah felt a wave of relief wash over her. "Really, Laura? You'd do that for me?"
Laura's voice was firm. "Of course, Sarah. Jake did the same thing, of course I'll do whatever it takes to help you. Visiting hours are almost done here, so I'll pass by your house."
Sarah rejoiced. "Thanks Laura."
Meanwhile, Mai sat in front of the bank of monitors, her eyes scanning the security footage from the precinct. She had been reviewing the tapes for hours, searching for any sign of Dr. Lee or the mole.
As she reviewed the footage from the camera pointing to the main computer, Mai's eyes narrowed. Something caught her attention - a five-minute gap in the recording.
Mai's brow furrowed. That was weird. She checked the camera's settings, wondering if it had malfunctioned or been turned off somehow.
But as she checked the footage from three other cameras in the area, Mai's eyes widened. Two people, dressed in precinct uniforms, walked down the hallway outside the room where the main computer was located.
The timing matched the gap in the recording. Mai's mind was racing. What were those two people doing in that hallway? And why had the camera recording been disabled?
Mai's eyes scanned the footage again, trying to get a better look at the two people. But their faces were obscured, and Mai couldn't make out any distinguishing features.
Mai's eyes widened as she enhanced the footage, her heart racing with excitement. She had been reviewing the tapes for hours, trying to get a better look at the two people who had walked down the hallway outside the main computer room.
And finally, after enhancing the footage and adjusting the lighting, Mai saw what she had been searching for. The two people were none other than the Chief and Detective Blaine.
Mai's mind was reeling. What were the Chief and Detective Blaine doing together, sneaking around the precinct and disabling the security cameras?
She thought back to the conversation she had with Sarah earlier, about the possibility of a mole within the precinct. Mai's eyes narrowed. Could it be that the Chief and Detective Blaine were involved in the security breach?
Mai knew she had to tell Sarah about this new development. She quickly grabbed her phone and dialed Sarah's number, her heart racing with anticipation.
"Sarah, it's Mai," she said, trying to keep her voice steady. "I found out who the two people were in the footage."
There was a pause on the other end of the line. "Who was it?" Sarah asked, her voice cautious.
Mai took a deep breath. "It was the Chief and Detective Blaine."
There and then, Sarah's phone buzzed.
Sarah's phone buzzed on the coffee table, breaking the silence in the room. She picked it up, glancing at the screen.
Detective Blaine's name flashed on the display, accompanied by a text message.
"Sarah, it's Blaine. Need you to come down to the station ASAP. It's urgent."
Sarah's heart skipped a beat as she read the message. What could be so urgent?
She quickly typed out a response. "On my way."
She stood up, grabbing her keys and purse. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing thoughts.
What could Detective Blaine want to see her about? Had they found something new about Dr. Lee's disappearance? Or is he connected to Dr. Lee?
Sarah's mind was filled with questions as she headed out the door, locking it behind her. She made her way to the station, her heart pounding with anticipation.
