Sarah sat in Detective Blaine's office, sipping on a cup of coffee. She had received his urgent text message earlier, and she was eager to find out what he had discovered.Detective Blaine leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers together. "Sarah, I need to tell you something. At the beginning of my investigation, I started digging into your husband's background."
Sarah's eyes narrowed. "Okay?"
Detective Blaine hesitated. "After some digging I found out about the cheating scandal."
Sarah's face fell, and she felt a pang of embarrassment. She had hoped to keep that part of her life private.
Detective Blaine continued. "I did more research on Blair, but there was nothing. No background, no history. It was like she spawned into existence as a teacher and then vanished."
Sarah's eyes widened. "What are you saying?"
Detective Blaine leaned forward. "I'm saying that Blair was likely an alias. Whoever she was, she was trying to hide her true identity."
Sarah's mind was reeling. What did this mean? Why did Dr. Lee say she was Blair?
She looked up at Detective Blaine, her eyes searching for answers. "What's going on, Detective? What's really going on here?"
Detective Blaine's expression was grim. "I'm not sure, Sarah. But I do know that this case just got a lot more complicated."
Sarah's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?"
Detective Blaine leaned back in his chair. "I mean that I've been digging into Dr. Lee's background too, and I've found something strange."
Sarah's heart skipped a beat. "What is it?"
Detective Blaine's eyes locked onto hers. "Dr. Lee has no background, Sarah. No history, no family, no nothing. It's like she too spawned into existence."
Sarah's mind reeled as she processed this information. No background? How was that possible?
She thought back to her sessions with Dr. Lee, wondering if she had missed something. But Dr. Lee had always seemed so... normal.
Sarah's eyes snapped back to Detective Blaine. "What does this mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Detective Blaine's expression was grim. "I'm not sure, Sarah. But I think we're dealing with something much bigger than we initially thought. All I know is we are dealing with ghosts."
Sarah's eyes were wide with concern. "So, how are we going to catch...this ghost?" she asked, waving her hand in frustration.
Detective Blaine's expression was grim. "Honestly, Sarah? I don't think we can. Whoever Dr. Lee is, she's covered her tracks perfectly. We have no leads, no trails, no nothing."
Sarah felt a surge of fear. If they couldn't catch Dr. Lee, what would happen to her?
But then Detective Blaine's expression changed. A small, determined smile played on his lips.
"But there is one thing," he said, his eyes locking onto Sarah's. "I know Dr. Lee wants you, Sarah. And that's our one advantage."
Sarah's heart skipped a beat. "What do you mean?"
Detective Blaine leaned forward. "I mean that one way or another, Dr. Lee will show herself again. She'll come after you, Sarah. And when she does, we'll be ready."
Sarah's eyes locked onto Detective Blaine's, a sense of determination growing inside her. She knew that she was taking a risk, but she also knew that she couldn't just sit back and wait for Dr. Lee to make her next move.
