Welcome to Fanfic's Hall of Fame, CR1NGECULTURE!!!
CR1NGECULTURE: Honestly? It's kind of my whole life. I love reading fanfiction, I love making fanart, I love talking about my interests. I love these stories that worm their way into my brain. It's my favorite thing ever.
CR1NGECULTURE: I think my first time writing fanfiction was around 2017 or 2018? The fic was unfortunately deleted and unsaved, though! So I don't remember. I started getting really into it again in 2019, when I joined Wattpad and was obsessed with Steven Universe.
CR1NGECULTURE: As I started reading Steven Universe fanfiction, I started seeing a lot of the same users pop up over and over again. One was Manu -- his bright blue and yellow star profile picture was always noticeable! Overtime, we became friends, and he became an important part of my friend group. We don't talk much anymore, but we're still mutuals on all our social media accounts.
CR1NGECULTURE: I've always written to cope with the world around me, and that hasn't changed at all over the years. When I panic, or have an identity crisis, or am disappointed with the real world, I turn to fiction. I can process my feelings through the characters on the screen better than I can process my thoughts. Every time I write, I put a part of myself into the characters. I may not have created them, but they've certainly played a role in creating me.
CR1NGECULTURE: Seeing people's reactions to the things I post. When people tell me that they loved it, that they got emotional over it, or even if they just silently leave a like, it brings me joy. It feels like I'm contributing something to the world, even if it's just a fanfiction. When people say they relate to the stories I write that are based on myself, I feel accepted, and I know that I made my readers feel accepted too.
CR1NGECULTURE: There's a lot of problems with fandom, and I don't think all of those problems will ever be fixed. However, I want to create more content for the people that feel unseen in current-day fandom. I want to publish stories that make people passionate. I want them to add onto those stories with their own collaborations -- fic, art, anything.
CR1NGECULTURE: -heavenly-astra, you don't use Wattpad anymore, but I still talk to you everyday. We were barely 13 when we met. You loved me, and I loved you. Even if we had our ups and downs, it still lead us here: a one-year relationship, finally meeting IRL, and thousands of words worth of writing. We still bond over fanfiction and fandom just like we did the first time we dated in middle school. No matter how old we get, we'll still have a soft spot for Steven Universe and the cartoons we would obsess over. I send you my favorite fics, and you send your reactions. I listen as you infodump about your own fandoms that I know nothing about, and I love it no matter what.
I love you, and I'm so glad I met you on Wattpad of all places <3
