Mannon and Hyunjin sat in the front row of Elyse’s school auditorium, eagerly awaiting their daughter’s performance in the annual talent show. Elyse had insisted on keeping her act a surprise, and the anticipation was killing them both.
“Do you think she’ll sing?” Hyunjin asked, glancing at Manon.
“She might,” Mannon replied with a smile. “Or she might surprise us completely.”
When Elyse stepped onto the stage in a sparkly purple dress, holding a microphone, Mannon’s heart swelled with pride. The soft melody of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” began to play, and Elyse sang her heart out, her voice pure and sweet.
The audience was mesmerized, and by the end of the song, not a single person was sitting. Elyse beamed at the standing ovation, her eyes searching the crowd until they found her parents.
“She’s incredible,” Hyunjin said, his voice filled with emotion.
“She gets it from you,” Mannon replied, wiping away a tear.
Later that evening, Elyse proudly displayed her first-place trophy at home, her parents showering her with praise and hugs.
“You’re going to be a star,” Hyunjin told her, tucking her into bed.
“Like Mommy?” Elyse asked, her voice full of wonder.
Hyunjin smiled. “Exactly like Mommy.”
