Chapter 14: Bound by Fire

Lila stood in front of the bathroom mirror, hands gripping the counter as she stared at her reflection. Her face was a mask of composure, but beneath it, chaos churned. The adrenaline rush of navigating her double life was intoxicating yet terrifying. Ethan's sweet, steady love anchored her, but Dominic's fiery obsession consumed her in ways she couldn't resist.

Her phone buzzed on the counter. She knew who it was before she even looked.

We need to talk. Don't make me come to you.

Dominic's words sent a shiver down her spine, but there was a forbidden thrill to his dominance. She told herself it was fear that made her grab her keys and sneak out of the house while Ethan worked in the garage, but deep down, she knew better.

The Push and Pull

The air between her and Dominic in his dimly lit apartment was electric. He stood by the window, his silhouette sharp against the city lights.

"You're making this harder than it needs to be," he said, his voice low and steady.

"Dominic, you can't keep doing this," she said, crossing her arms defensively. "You've already forced your way into my life. Into Ethan's life."

His lips curved into a dangerous smile as he approached her. "You say that like you didn't love every second of it."

She tried to hold her ground as he closed the space between them, but her resolve melted when his hands slid around her waist, pulling her flush against him.

"You don't want me out of your life," he whispered, his lips brushing her ear. "You'd miss this too much."

Her protests died as his mouth claimed hers, a fiery clash of want and anger. She knew this was wrong, knew it was a game that could destroy her, but Dominic's unrelenting passion was impossible to ignore.

Living the Lie

Back home, Lila found herself falling into Ethan's arms as if nothing had happened. He kissed her forehead, oblivious to the guilt that burned in her chest. She told herself she was doing this to protect him, but the truth was, she couldn't let go of either man.

Dominic wasn't content with being a shadow in her life. He began pushing boundaries, showing up unannounced at her work and leaving cryptic messages on her phone.

You think this is enough for me? I want more, Lila. And I'll get it.

The Edge of Obsession

One evening, Ethan suggested inviting Dominic over for dinner.

"He's been a great friend," Ethan said, his smile genuine. "I think he could use some company."

Lila's heart nearly stopped. The thought of the two men in the same room again was suffocating, but she forced a smile. "That's a great idea."

The dinner was a masterclass in tension. Dominic played his part perfectly, charming Ethan while throwing Lila lingering glances that made her skin crawl and heat rise in equal measure.

When Ethan stepped out to take a call, Dominic leaned across the table.

"You look stunning tonight," he murmured, his voice laced with intent.

"Stop," she hissed, her pulse racing.

"Why? You don't want me to stop," he said, his tone daring her to deny it.

The Double Life Intensifies

After dinner, Lila found herself slipping into Dominic's car while Ethan cleaned up inside.

"This has to end," she said, but her words lacked conviction.

"Then end it," he challenged, leaning closer. His hand traced the curve of her neck, and she shivered under his touch.

"You're dangerous," she whispered, her voice trembling.

"That's what you like about me," he said, capturing her lips in a kiss that made her forget everything else.

She hated herself for how easily she gave in, for the way her body responded to him despite her better judgment. But Dominic's pull was magnetic, and resisting him felt impossible.

The Unraveling

Back in her bed with Ethan that night, Lila stared at the ceiling, her mind a storm of conflict. Ethan shifted beside her, draping an arm over her waist. She turned to look at him, guilt stabbing at her as he smiled in his sleep.

Dominic was her undoing, but Ethan was her anchor. She couldn't keep juggling the two without something breaking.

But for now, she told herself she could manage. For now, she could keep living this double life.

Dominic, however, was not a man who waited patiently. And as Lila drifted to sleep, her phone lit up with another message:

I want you. And I always get what I want.
