"I'm Tyreese." The man said, extending his hand to Rick. Lana looked at the man observantly, intimidated by his sturdy figure. She was sure he was double her weight.
Rick looked down at the man's hand awkwardly. Tyreese pressed his lips into a thin line of embarrassment and placed his hand at his side. He shuffled nervously.
"Sasha," Hershel said using his left crutch to point at a caramel-skinned woman. Lana took a moment to observe her as well, she wasn't nearly as big as Tyreese but she stood confidently. "Allen," Hershel pointed at a pale-skinned man with thinning hair. He was clearly in his 40s and had a decent build. Possibly ex-military? Lana couldn't tell. "Ben." Hershel pointed at a boy around Lana's age before rendering his crutch. Lana frowned at the boy, he had a sad look to him. She could tell he lost someone recently.
"How'd you get in?" Rick questioned coldly.
"Fire damage to the administrative part of the prison. Walls down." Tyreese explained, his brawny arms hanging loosely at his sides.
"That sides completely run with walkers? How'd you get this far?" Rick asked, it was clear he didn't trust them.
Lana was impressed. They barely got out with their lives the last time they tried to clear walkers. She shivered as Hershel's scream echoed in her ears. Beth shuffled closer to Lana, offering her a small smile. Lana couldn't help but return it.
"We didn't. We lost our friend Donna." Tyreese said. Lana notices the saddened look on the younger boy's face. She frowned at him, empathizing with him.
"They were lost in the gyms," Carl mumbled.
"You brought them here?" Rick scolded, his tone rising as he turned to face his son. Judith whined at the sudden volume change. Carl frowned and looked towards the floor. It hurt Lana to see the once happy boy she knew now be so quiet and timid.
"He had no choice." Hershel defended the boy. Rick looked to Hershel, then to Carol who nodded in agreement.
"I'm sorry about your friend. We know what that's like." Rick offered his condolences. I think everyone does these days Lana thought.
