34. Misunderstandings and Resolutions
Dhawal looked in the mirror, sweeping back his hair and adjusting his tie, and saw as Natasha entered their room and closed the door.
"Arey kaha thi tum subah se? Jab main utha to gayab thi? Kal bhi so chuki thi jab main aaya..."
He was getting ready to leave for the office with Mots. It was an important day for him. The clients were coming and he had to give a presentation. His first one. All day yesterday he had been preparing for this only and that was why he had been late in coming home. The project he was handed was one of the most important ones and he just could not afford any mistakes today. He wanted to prove to Mots that he could do this. That he was capable. That he could be a breadwinner for his family too. He had been looking forward to telling Natasha about this and discussing with her to get her inputs but she had been already asleep when he reached. He knew she would have some great points to help him and he had thought he would talk to her in the morning but she was gone by the time he woke up. And now he needed to leave.
Well, he would surprise her with the news of a successful presentation in the evening. He was confident. He was already planning a dinner outing for the two of them tonight in his head.
Aaj to date night hogi! he thought, smiling to himself. Finally a date after their shaadi. It had been too long since they went out together properly. He turned around to talk to her but saw her standing there looking a bit tensed and distracted.
"Kya hua? Maa ne kuch bol diya kya tumhe?" he asked, walking towards her. Still silent, she jerked at his question, as if just noticing he was in the room.
He reached her and was about to take her into his arms when she stepped back and he halted.
"Kya hogya, Maddy?" he asked, surprised.
She was still silent and he could almost see thoughts churning inside her head just by looking at her expression. She seemed to be fighting with herself over something.
"Tum ye sign kar do" she said finally, thrusting a bunch of papers at him and looking away.
He glanced quickly at the text and to say he was shocked was putting it lightly.
"Ye kya hai?" He stared at her, unable to believe what he was holding in his hands.
"Dhawal, its just something I want to keep myself secure. Nothing else." She told him, still looking away.
"Natasha...idhar dekho zara..?" he held her shoulders and turned her towards him. "Where is this coming from all of a sudden? Ye subah subah ye sab....tum kya...mujhe kuch samajh nahi aa raha hai"
"Aisa bhi kuch nahi likha hai isme jo tum aise react kar rahe ho. Tum pyar karte ho mujhse to kar do na sign. Kya problem hai?" she demanded.
He had no clue what was happening right now. What had gotten into Natasha all of a sudden. The papers she handed him enlisted numerous rights that she wanted to have as the daughter-in-law of Makhwanas as well as a monetary compensation monthly for herself. Most of these were things that his bhabhis were not allowed to do as per Maa and Mots. He knew it was unfair but this was how it had been since ages and he did mean to bring about changes, but not like this! This would make everyone even more furious and resentful.
