Chapter 24: little brothers

The twins are now 1 day old and today the girls are going to meet their baby brothers for the first time after school when Marjorie and Reece pick them up. Reece is round almost every day helping autumn and Charlotte with the twins and he watches them while autumn and Charlotte have a shower although autumn gets anxious when she's not right beside the twins or someone try's to walk to far with them unless it's Charlotte that has hold of the twins.

"Darling." Charlotte says. "Hm." Autumn hums in response. "Are you okay it's just when we're not right beside the twins or someone walks too far away with them you get anxious unless it's me that's holding them." Charlotte says. "It's just not having them next to me I get really anxious and want to protect them I don't know what it is." Autumn admits. "Babe why didn't you say anything and that's what being a mum is about but I'm here and nothing will happen to Wyatt or Theo." Charlotte says and pulls autumn into her. "Thank you my sweet." Autumn says and kisses Charlotte.

There's a knock at the door. Charlotte gets up and answers the door. She stops when she sees a short blonde stood there that she's seen in photos and recognises her as autumns mum. "Can I help you?" Charlotte says and acts like she doesn't know who she is. "Baby who is it." Autumn says walking over to Charlotte and wrapping her arms around her waist. "Hello?" Autumn says staring at the blonde woman not recognising her because she hasn't seen her since she was a child. "Autumn." The blonde says looking at her daughter. "Who are you and how do you know me." Autumn says. Charlotte looks at autumn knowing that as soon as she finds out she's most likely going to breakdown. "Autumn sweetheart." Charlotte starts. "I'm Kate Atkinson and I'm your mum." The blonde adds and autumns eyes widen. "NO! My mum walked out when I was 6 and my brother was 10." Autumn says. Charlotte gets a picture and shows autumn and she sees the blonde woman stood there with herself and Reece in the picture.

Autumn walks off and goes upstairs to the twins room when she heard them crying. "Come in and take your shoes off please  I need to go and check on my wife and make a phone call." Charlotte says and directs the woman to the living room. She calls Reece first.

Call with Reece:

"Hello" Reece answered

"Reece you need to come to mine and autumns house now, autumn has shut herself in the twins room." Charlotte says worried about her wife.

"What's happened char is she okay." Reece asks concerned about his little sister.

I'll explain when you get here and ask Marjorie to watch the girls for a little while until I message her to bring them home." Charlotte says.

"She said okay, and I'm on my way now." Reece says and hangs up.

Charlotte goes upstairs and knocks on the twins bedroom door. "Darling can I come in." Charlotte says at the door. "Yes." Charlotte hears autumn say quietly from inside the room she walks in and sees autumn sat there holding the twins with tears in her eyes.  Charlotte looks at her wife and walks over. Reece gives autumn back to Charlotte and stands up. "Reece where you going." Charlotte says but Reece doesn't answer he just walks to the door and autumn sits up and looks to him. "Reecey!" Autumn shouts and Reece looks back at autumn she hasn't called him that since she was little and their mum left. Reece walks out the room and autumn starts crying again. "Reece come back!" Charlotte shouts. Reece goes downstairs and into the living room and the blonde woman stands up. "Reece." She says. "No you don't talk, what makes you think it's okay to turn up here after all these years you left us I was 10 and aut was 6 and you left us alone and to go through the system with social services and now you turn up?!" Reece raises his voice. "Reece let me explain please." Kate pleads with him. "You have 2 minutes and then I want you gone, because autumn has her own children now and doesn't need you and I have my own daughter and wife and I most certainly don't need you either." Reece says. Kate explains why she left and how much she was struggling. "You left your 10 year old son and 6 year old daughter because you couldn't cope." Reece says feeling the anger raise again.

"I'm sorry Reece." Kate says. "Get out now and don't come back you've done enough damage." Reece says and Kate leaves, Reece goes back upstairs. "Aut." Reece says and sees his sister asleep on her wife's lap. "Aut." Reece try's again and autumn opens her eyes. "Reecey." Autumn says and sounds small and Charlotte tears up hearing her wife sound so small and fragile. Charlotte takes the twins and lets her wife and Reece have their moment she goes downstairs with the twins. Charlotte picks up her phone when she puts the twins in their bassinets in the living room and sits on the sofa and messages Marjorie.

Message to Marj:

"Hey Marjorie you can bring the girls and aut round now just walk in and come into the living room Reece and autumn are upstairs."

"Okay my love we're on our way now." Marjorie responded

Charlotte puts her phone away and makes the twins bottles and feeds them one by one and winds them. "Char." Marjorie says walking in with the girls and her daughter. "In the living room." Charlotte says and they go into the living room. "Hi girls, hi aut." Charlotte says greeting her daughters and autumn-jade. "Hi auntie Lottie." Autumn-jade says. "Hi mum where's mama." The girls ask. "She's upstairs with uncle Reece they'll be down soon do you want to come say hi to your little brothers." Charlotte says and the girls walk over and sit on the sofa. Kasey is now 16 and Gracie is 13. "I'm your big sister Kasey and this is your other big sister Gracie." Kasey says as Charlotte hands the twins to Kasey and Gracie. "What are their names mum." Gracie asks. "So the one you're holding is Theo-James knight and the one Kasey is holding is Wyatt-Matthew knight." Charlotte says. Autumn and Reece go back downstairs into the living room. "Mama." The girls say in union. "Hey girls you okay." Autumn says smiling at her daughters holding their baby brothers.

They all sit round and talk for a while and have some food then Marjorie, Reece and autumn-jade leave to walk back home. Autumn and Charlotte settle the twins in their cots for the night and the girls go to bed.  Autumn and Charlotte go into their room and get changed to cuddle up in bed and watch a film. "I love you my sweet thank you for being here for me today." Autumn says. "I'll always be here darling you're my wife and I love you too." Charlotte says and autumn pulls here into a kiss and roams her body with her hands.
