Chapter 1: An Unfamiliar Dream

3rd POV

Shadow didn't like sleeping.. much..
If he had dreams, they would be nightmares, reminding him of what he failed to do in the first place. To protect Maria, to protect the earth.
He hated those dreams he would get, but his housemate, Rouge, and his little bud, Cream, would always insist that he sleep to thrive and survive. Seeing as how it's Cream that's asking- and Cream reminds Shadow of Maria a small bit- he would sleep but jolt awake a sweating, panicked mess.
Not this time, though.
This time, as Shadow fell into an uneasy sleep, he found himself in a very dark room. When he looked down, he saw a reflection of himself. He stepped back and it seemed as if he was standing on water. Strange.
Shadow looked around to see where he was. He noticed that there were brown leaves were flying upwards, which was unnatural. Then, he heard a voice, an angelic one.
"Hello.. you must be Shadow the Hedgehog."
Shadow frantically looked around, looking for the source of the voice.
"Who are you? Where are you? Show yourself!" Shadow barked, starting to get annoyed that he couldn't see whoever called for him.
"Oh, my apologies," Shadow heard the voice say, and it was coming from right behind him. He jumped, turning around and stepping back. His eyes widened when he saw a white moth that looked exactly like Melody and was wearing a blue Kimono. The moth also had her hair up into a messy bun.
"My name is Kira Moth, Melody's mother. It's a pleasure meeting you." The moth bowed to Shadow. He was truly confused. He didn't know why he was there in the first place.
"Why am I here?" He asked, relaxing from his battle stance.
"Because I have a task for you," Kira said, standing up, "I recently found out that my daughter has returned from Earth after all she had been through there, and I need someone to protect her."
"And that someone being?" Shadow's eyebrow rose as he stared at Kira like she was going mad.
"The kingdom has decided to have you protect her until we have prepared everything for her arrival"
Shadow's eyes widened.
"But she has friends here, you can't just take her away," Shadow argued.
"But it's for the best.." Kira replied, keeping her calm given the situation. Shadow sighed.
"She'll be safe with us." He stated, making Kira nod.
"I'll see you in one year, Shadow the Hedgehog," Kira smiled before the leaves turned into a small tornado, causing Shadow to shield himself, and the moth seemed to have disappeared when the leaves cleared.

[June 24th]

Shadow opened his eyes to the sun shining in his eyes. He sighed before turning to check what time it was.
8:59 AM
He had to warn the others what was to come- even if they didn't believe him. He didn't care if they believed him or not, he just needed to get the word out.

Shadow's POV

I had gotten ready for the day and went to the kitchen. I saw my housemate, Rouge, making some toast for herself.
"Morning, Rouge," I spoke, heading to the coffee machine to make myself a cup of coffee.
"Good morning, Shadow, how was your sleep?" Rouge asked, "I noticed you didn't wake up a sweating mess in the middle of the night."
"I'm fine, but it was just this strange dream I had.." I replied.
"Would you like to tell me about it?" Rouge asked. I could only nod. I explained my dream. Like how I was in a dark area, how I met this moth that looked like Melody but white and wearing these weird blue robes named Kira, how Kira said that a kingdom chose him to be Melody's guardian, and how Kira's going to take Melody back next year. I saw Rouge nod to each thing I said about the dream.
"I just think it's bullshit.. how Melody would have to leave everyone behind.." I complained, putting my head on my hand, and my elbow on the counter of the kitchen.
"Why? You like her or something?" I heard Rouge ask. I shot my head up and snapped my head towards her, basically glaring at her. "What? I was only joking," she hissed. I nodded slightly and grabbed my mug from the coffee machine.
"We should tell the others about it, too.." I stated, taking a sip from the coffee mug I had in my hand.
"We should tell Amy, first, and see what she thinks," Rouge remarked. I could only nod.
"Get ready, then.."

"Is Miss. Melody leaving us?" Cream asked, she seemed sad to see Melody having to leave.
"No, not until next year, probably Sonic's next birthday or sometime this month of next year," I explained, looking at Amy who was looking through her books.
"This Kira you're talking about seems familiar. You said she was a moth wearing blue robes, right?" Amy asked, looking towards me and Rouge.
"Precisely," Rouge replied, "And Shadow mentioned how she said "kingdom", any information on that?"
"I think I do. I mean- the only insect-like mobian that we know about is Charmy. But a full kingdom of moths? It was only said in this book that was made in 1990," Amy explained as she walked to us with a book that looked like it hadn't been used in a long while. Amy placed the book down on the coffee table in front of us as she sat down. I looked down at the book. It was a small, purple book with gold edges.
"The Great Tale of Mothera? What's this story about?" Rouge asked what I was wondering.
"Here, let me read the book for you guys," Amy announced. Cream, Rouge, and I watched as she opened a page.

[The book, 3rd POV]

Two hundred years ago, in 1790, the world was cold, dark, and colorless. It was as if the devil himself was sending his cruelest demons into the world to ruin it. That was, at least, until a gift came to Earth in the shape of a moth from space.
The moth made the world warm, bright, and lively. It was as if it had the power to create life in Mobius. The Mobians named the moth Mothera.
As time went on, the Mobians kept on wanting and demanding, and the moth kept politely asking the Mobians to be patient. In 1800, the Mobians had enough of waiting. They overthrew Mothera, and the moth went to a faraway place, in the mountains, and created her empire of moths. Mothera even had a child, whom she named Kira.
In 1823, Mothera transferred her power to her child, who also had a child without a name. That was when Kira decided on a name for her child. 
Melody.

Melody was to be the heir to the throne, to continue the royal bloodline. But all great things must come to an end. A mobian had found the Moth Society in 1892 and told the entire Mobius about its whereabouts. This caused a war between the Moths and the Mobians. Kira had to act fast for her dear child. The Mobians might assassinate Melody to destroy the kingdom her mother had built. That was when she found out about transferring a being to another planet in 1900, although it would take 100 years for the being to get to Earth, Kira didn't care, though. All she cared about was getting Melody to a safe place.
Kira cast Melody away down to earth, fearful that the Mobians would find her.
Fifty years later, in 1950, the Mobians and Moths finally made a deal to keep peace between the races. The Moths would give the Mobians heroes in the future, heroes with incredible power if the Mobians would leave the Moth Kingdom alone for good.
To this day, the princess has not been found, and the Queen of Crystalline Kingdom is trying to connect Melody back to this world.

[Out of the book, 3rd POV]

Shadow looked up at Amy as she shut the book, getting up and walking back to the bookshelf to put the book away.
"So Miss Melody is the grandchild of Miss Mothera?" Cream asked, her curious eyes looking up at Amy.
"It seems so," Amy remarked. It seems like Kira is in despite needing her child—or the princess—back." Shadow seemed to start getting lost in thought. So Melody's a princess somehow? The four of them needed to tell the others somehow and keep it from Melody. It seemed as if Melody didn't know she was a princess, but how wouldn't she? Maybe she was that young whenever she was cast down to earth?
Shadow lost his train of thought whenever Rouge snapped her fingers right in front of his face, which he glared at her for.
"We need to tell everyone about this," Amy stated, looking at Shadow. Shadow sighed and nodded.
"Yeah, we do," He mumbled, looking down.
"And I know a few people we could tell this to," Rouge announced.

Meanwhile, Knuckles was with Tails, Melody, and Sonic, talking and having a fun time with them.
