Shadow X Melody

Chapter 3: A Jealous and Overprotective Hedgehog

[July 24th]

3rd POV

It's been at least a month since Melody found out she was a princess. It was a hectic month, though. Whenever Eggman attacked, Shadow would never let Melody help her friend in fear Eggman would try to take her for hostage. Shadow following Melody around everywhere whenever she went out, which made Melody very uncomfortable normally. Even when she would just be hanging around in her room, she'd always have an uneasy feeling that someone would watch her at night, but she knew that Shadow and Rouge were inside the house. Overall, Melody was just uncomfortable in general.
Currently, it is 9:30 AM for Melody, and she is drawing in her sketchbook. She knew Shadow was probably asleep by now, so she might be able to walk around town. Melody smiled a small bit before getting up, closing her sketchbook, and running to her bathroom to get ready. She went by her regular morning schedule: Getting dressed and brushing her fur. Melody ran out of her room in a hurry.
"Woah, what's going on? What are you excited about?" Rouge asked Melody, who seemed excited.
"Just asking a friend to help me get some yarn, that's all!" Melody sang before running out of the house. Little did she know, Shadow watched her leave.

Melody was talking to a guy friend she met at a cafe once. His name was Nova, and they had already gotten along. If Melody hadn't had any self-control, she'd probably have fallen in love with him by now since she had met him three weeks ago. Nova was a handsome Wolf with grey and white fur, green eyes, and a cool smile. Melody would normally talk to Nova and he always would listen to what she had to say, which would have also been a reason Melody would have fallen for him.
"So, which store is the best one?" Melody asked, "To get yarn, at least-" Melody looked at Nova, who smiled at her.
"It's around this corner!" Nova sang as they turned a corner to a big yarn sale. Seeing all the yarn made Melody's jaw drop.
"Woah! This is a big shop! Thank you!" Melody beamed, looking at Nova.
"No problem, Mel," Nova chuckled before Melody dragged him to see all the shops there. Watching Melody look around with the brightest look on her face, Nova couldn't help but smile. He loved making people happy. Even if he can't be happy, himself, yet, it was always nice to see one of his gal-pals happy. 
"You need some of your own, Nova!" Melody beamed, looking at him, "Maybe you could make yourself a sweater for your future boyfriend!" Nova could only nod, heading over to Melody.

Shadow was watching Melody and Nova from a distance, a scowl on his face as he glared at Nova. Shadow didn't know what Nova was doing, or why he was doing it, but he didn't like it. He was set up with a task to be a guard for Melody, to protect her. But, since it has been a month since then, Shadow found himself catching feelings for the moth somehow. Something welled up within himself. Was it jealousy? Couldn't be. Shadow was the stoic and emotionless hedgehog, right? He didn't know how to love, right? He just watched as Melody showed a few bunches of yarn for Nova to choose from. All Melody was showing was happiness around Nova.. while around him she would feel uncomfortable, but why? Maybe he has to rethink ways to be a bodyguard for Melody, not a babysitter.
"Shadow! Let the poor girl have her fun!" Rouge protested to Shadow. The only thing he did was nod before walking away.

"See you, Nova! And thank you again!" Melody cheered as Nova nodded and walked away. Melody opened the door to the house, went inside, and shut the door behind her. She was happy that she got more yarn. "I'm home!" Melody called out before heading to her room. Once arrived, she went to her yarn stash and organized the new yarn into colors and textures.
"Took you long enough.." Melody heard a familiar tone a bit behind her. She quickly turned to look at him.
"Shadow!?" Melody asked.
"So, had fun with your little boyfriend?" Shadow asked, a hint of irritation in his voice. Melody was confused.
"What boyfriend? I have no boyfriend," Melody questioned.
"You sure? I saw you shopping with him.." Shadow responded.
"Oh, you mean Nova? He's just a friend!" Melody giggled.
"Didn't seem like it.." Shadow hissed.
"Wait, are you jealous?" Melody asked, raising an eyebrow. Shadow's face instantly turned red, then he looked away.
"No.." He muttered.
"You are jealous! He's gay, by the way," Melody laughed, causing Shadow to glare at her.
"So what if I was jealous? I'm supposed to protect you!" He argued.
"True.." Melody spoke, "But you can't deny that you like me." This caused Shadow to glare at Melody again before he left her room. Melody giggled before her heart swelled. Her childhood crush? Liking her? Of all people?
In Melody's eyes, she didn't deserve this at all. She didn't ask to be a princess or anything powerful. She didn't ask to be here. She didn't ask for any of this. She just wanted to be the kind one.. She just wanted to have fun, be happy. Well, at least she isn't getting ridiculed and judged by her own father. She turned to her window and headed that way. Maybe she could test her wings at some point, see if they actually work or not. Melody just looked outside at the sky.
She thought about how Earth and Mobius were different and how they were the same. She could tell the similarity was that they both had the same music and that they both have life. There is a big difference, though. Sonic and everyone else are real in Mobius. On Earth, they're just characters inside the games of Sonic the Hedgehog.
"This life is bound to get exciting." Melody thought to herself, "And it's only been a few months into it."

[July 25th]

"So.." Rouge began, "What made Shadow all flustered the other day?" Melody nearly choked on her pancakes that Shadow just so thoughtfully cooked for her.
"It was nothing, Rouge.." Shadow spoke before getting up to go to his rooms. He was a few steps towards there before:
"Or maybe it was the fact he was jealous I was hanging out with my gay friend!" Melody teased, causing Shadow to stop in his tracks and snap his head towards Melody.
"Oh, shut up," Shadow barked before heading to his room.
Silence filled the room. It was truly awkward just sitting there when the only sound that could be heard was from the clanking of fork to plates.
"Rouge?" Melody broke the silence.
"Yes?" Rouge asked.
"Can you teach me how to fly eventually?" Melody asked in upmost embarrassment.
"Sure! I don't see why not!" Rouge stated.
"Really? You're the best Rouge!" Melody beamed before getting up, holding her plate, and running to the sink to put her plate inside it. Melody left to her room, leaving Rouge to sit there, surprised on how excited Melody was.
"What a strange girl.." Rouge smiled softly at her remark.

"So you think Shadow really likes her?" Tails asked, confused for an accusation that his best bud, Sonic, just made.
"Just connect the dots! He follows her everywhere, is overprotective," Sonic pointed out, "And- Get this- When we last spoke to one another, I mentioned Melody and he suddenly told me to shut up about her!'
"Sounds like average bodyguard behavior to me.." Tails remarked.
"But something doesn't add up, Tails! Amy mentioned that Mothera gave her daughter a partner by giving the soulmate of Kira a message to protect her! What if it's the same thing for Shadow and Melody!?" Sonic shouted.
"Well, if you put it that way it does sound like Shadow likes Melody a tiny bit too much.." Tails spoke before turning to Amy, who was eating her cake.
"I mean, that's what it said in the book so it might," Amy stated before stuffing her mouth with a piece of cake, "I mean- Melody is the daughter of Kira, so it might be the same with Melody's grandmother."
"I wonder if we get to meet her grandmother!" Cream sang happily, "Maybe Mothera's just like Miss. Melody!" Both Amy and Sonic chuckled at Cream.
"Anywho, we must help Shadow protect Melody, especially since Eggman has found out about her," Tails reported.
"Yeah, can't ever forget the time Eggman tried coming inside our house to ''Look around''. Hah! Don't believe that a single bit!" Sonic remarked.
"I wonder what he's planning.." Cream muttered, looking up at the sky.
