WINTER
It has now been about a month since the accident, and she's still in a coma. It's so hard taking care of a newborn on my own. I'm starting to lose hope. The doctors said if she doesn't show signs of waking up, then....
I can't say it; I say crying.
I am seated here in the living room holding my baby. She is the only thing keeping me alive. I think about what would happen if she had two dead parents. I can't let that happen while I play all the songs that remind me of my love.
The long nights I have spent crying, holding my baby that I refuse to name without her
I keep hearing her voice. I don't know what to do; it's driving me insane.
—— next day——
It's 10 am. I was here ready for when visiting hours started so I could get to her as soon as I could.
I am here holding her hand and her helping her stroke our baby's hair as I tell her about what I have been doing: reading her stories and playing our favourite songs.
I don't know for sure, but I know she can hear me; she can hear everything. She's probably scared.
Just as I hear the door open again, I see Reece and Marjorie. Hey, I say.
Sweet, your brother and Marjorie are here, I say, rubbing her hand.
They take a seat next to me on each side.
RECEIVE
As I sit down, I place my hand on her hair, running my fingers through it gently, getting any tangles out.
It saddens me to see her like this, but I have to be strong and hope she wakes up soon.
MARJORIE
My deputy manager is so strong yet so weak as I watch her lying lifeless, all the machines beeping.
Siobhan keeps telling me to take on a new deputy. I am not. I know she will make it. She is strong like that.
Until Winter and Reece look at me in shock, looking like they are both about to cry.
What happened in the winter? I need to know.
