Pov: Adam Banks, September 4th, 1995, Minneapolis, Minnesota
We set out on the ice in our Duck jerseys ready to play varsity. We've all done the work and prepared tirelessly for this game but it still weights heavy on us. These guys almost killed the Ducks last time, granted I was in the wrong team, but one Duck wont make much of a difference. We have good players but they have strong players. With only one Bash Brother, there's no way this game doesn't end with a bruising. Plus with the weird tension between me and Charlie, teamwork isn't our vice right now. He seems to be ignoring it and I'll try to do the same but I've known him since we were 9, I can tell when he's hiding something or is uncomfortable. Currently he's both. But I push all that aside for the sake of the team... and Hans.
The Ducks and I show our respect for Hans by skating around, touching the ice. It's a symbol of respect for the man that helped make the Ducks who we are today.
"On the count of 3... quack" Orian says with a smirk. We all smile as we do our Duck call and the crowd joins in. It's nerve racking and amazing to see the amount of support for us as opposed to varsity.
On the ice, we are getting slammed. Left and right Ducks are flying into the boards but we hold strong so no goals made. The puck has practically lived on our side of the ice the whole period until we finally get a shot in; blocked by Scooter.
The second period somehow it all gets worse. It almost seems like they've stopped trying to score and are only focusing on hitting us. Guy gets checked hard into the boards and can barely stand, Ref doesn't call. Charlie gets slammed into the wall, Ref doesn't call. I'm being to think this guy has cataracts or something because clearly he's blind.
At the end of the 2nd period, it's still 0-0 and Coach Orian ushers us into the locker room. We all sit down until we hear an announcement from our MC. "Ok and now, it's a great pleasure to introduce our special, surprise, in between period guest, from her '1 4 the Fans' Tour, and former player on Team USA Junior Hockey, Maple Hart!"
"Morgan?" I say with confused joy as I run out of the locker room to see her indeed standing on the ice with a microphone in her hand. The rest of the team follows me to watch our friend and former team mate preform her halftime song
