"Is there anything I can personally do to
help?" I moved my mobile from my right ear to the left and used my now free right hand to pick my mug off the coffee table.

"They could use some financial aid" my digital assistant's voice came through the phone.

I ran my hand through my tangled lock and took a sip of my hot chocolate while my brain struggled to skim over what she had just said.  I cherish my sleep a lot more than normal people. Having to wake up this early is already taking a toll on my mental health and with my faith conspiring against me, I made the grave mistake of switching on my phone, thus how I found myself trapped in a call with my assistant.

"We had them three consecutive times on the page, seeking aid, people did help but nothing really changed. And now again, finance?" I left the sentence open, just in case she had something to add.

"I can't pinpoint where the issue is at, though I will try to see if I can figure it out. But they really could use some help"

A little rustle interrupted the call and then she continued.

"Oh, she requested your contact details, do I give it to her?"

"You think she has anything worth listening to share?"

"Uhmm I can't say really. The woman is a lot of things you know, complexity being the headline of it all but I would....."

"Sorry, give me a sec" I didn't wait for her to respond before hanging up and striding down the hallway, my footsteps resounding as I descended the stairs. I woke up extra early today for this, I wasn't about to miss it for anything.

"Dada!" I yelled after my father, my slip-on going all Muhammad Ali on the marbled floor, with stealth yet ridiculously loud as I jogged the remaining distance toward his fading figure.

Fading into his car literally.

"Kiddo, you're up early today?" He abandoned his initial intent and instead, walked towards me, out of the carport.

"You know how it goes anytime I want to see you" I shrugged. "When the sun's up, so am I. Good morning" I bowed keenly.

The fact that I had a pretty chill relationship with my dad doesn't change the fact that he demands respect and expects us to hand it to him in the most proper way. Something about how tradition should always take precedence.

"Morning's come like always but it isn't going to distract me from the look you are giving me" He grinned knowingly, my face instantly mirroring the expression on his.

"I don't know what you are talking about. What look?" my hands moved dramatically in an attempt to express cluelessness. While there is a straight path to the bush, I love to beat around it, especially when my father is involved.

"The "Dad can I ask you something" look" He arched his perfectly shaped brows. One of the qualities I wish I inherited from him.

"I am not giving you that look" I protested, aware that the security guards nearby were eavesdropping though their stifled chuckles were barely audible.
