The next day!
In the Liang family villa!
Liang Guodong sat on the sofa, his face etched with worry. His eyes were bruised, a clear sign that he hadn't slept all night.
Although he was deeply dissatisfied with his son, he couldn't deny that Liang Chong was his only child. When he learned that his son had caused a grave incident, his heart was overwhelmed with self-blame. It was his fault for being so absorbed in his work, neglecting his responsibility as a father, and allowing things to spiral out of control.
Beside him, his wife, a middle-aged woman, had swollen eyes from crying. The thought of her son being detained, with no news of his whereabouts, drove her to tears once again.
"Old Liang, he's our only child! You must find a way to get him out!" she sobbed.
Liang Guodong, already weary from the worry over his son, was further aggravated by his wife's incessant weeping.
"Be quiet!" he snapped. "Our son ended up like this because you spoiled him!"
The woman, fully aware that her own indulgence had played a part, immediately fell silent, her sobs now reduced to quiet sniffles.
At that moment, Liang Guodong's phone rang.
He hurriedly answered.
"Hello, is this Mr. Liang Guodong, father of Liang Chong?"
"Yes, it is! This is he!"
"We need you to come to the Kyoto Public Security Bureau."
"Okay, I'll be there immediately!"
Liang Guodong hung up the phone, urgently called for his driver, and made his way to the Kyoto Public Security Bureau.
...
At the Kyoto Public Security Bureau!
The investigating officers briefed Liang Guodong on the situation.
Only then did Liang Guodong learn that his son had been involved in a kidnapping and robbery incident the previous day.
The most shocking revelation was that the victim was an important national figure.
It was then that Liang Guodong realized the gravity of the situation. Had the state not taken into account his charitable deeds over the years, they would never have agreed to meet with him.
"Mr. Liang, the state has initially ruled out the possibility that your son is a spy. Otherwise, he would have already been charged with treason," the officer said.
When Liang Guodong heard the words "treason," his entire body shook. He knew all too well the consequences of such a charge.
"So... how many years will he be sentenced?"
"I'm not sure. It will have to go through the judicial process. He won't be executed, but the minimum sentence is twenty years."
Hearing that his son wouldn't face the death penalty, Liang Guodong felt a slight relief. He had feared the worst.
Eventually, Liang Guodong was allowed to meet with his son.
When Liang Chong saw his father, he initially thought his father had come to take him out of the situation.
"You're late!" Liang Chong said angrily.
He raised his handcuffed hands and addressed the nearby officer.
"Why are you still standing there? Open these for me!"
"You have five minutes," the officer replied coldly, and promptly closed the iron door.
Liang Chong, bewildered, turned to his father and asked,
"What did he mean by that? What five minutes?"
"Smack!"
Liang Guodong slapped his son across the face.
"You ungrateful wretch! I tried to raise you well, but you wouldn't listen. Now, you'll have to reflect on your actions while in here!"
Liang Chong, stunned by the slap, couldn't believe what had just happened. His father had never hit him before, but now he dared to strike him.
Just as he was about to lose his temper, it seemed like something clicked, and he turned to his father, wide-eyed in shock.
"What do you mean? Aren't you here to take me out?"
"Take you out? Do you even know who you've crossed this time?"
Liang Guodong's hand lifted once again, as if to strike him, but this time it lowered in helpless resignation.
What good was it to lecture his son now? It seemed like his son's fate was sealed.
Seeing his father's demeanor, Liang Chong fell to his knees, pleading desperately,
"Dad, I'm your only son! You can't just abandon me!"
"Just repent and hope for leniency. Maybe you'll get out sooner," Liang Guodong's voice softened. After all, this was his son.
"Dad, please! Help me get out! I promise I'll listen to you from now on. I won't cause any more trouble. I'll focus on managing the company properly..."
"Ah! You won't get another chance. Make the best of it while you can," Liang Guodong said, his heart aching as he looked at his son. But he knew there was nothing more he could do.
With a heavy heart, he turned away, leaving his son sobbing uncontrollably on the floor.
Outside the room, Liang Guodong muttered to himself,
"You made your bed, now lie in it. No one can help you now."
Later that day, a massive shockwave rippled through Kyoto's elite circle.
The Zhang Group was found to have violated multiple regulations, and its assets were seized by the authorities. Key figures within the company were arrested and prosecuted.
The news sent shockwaves throughout the business world, as the Zhang Group was one of Kyoto's four major enterprises.
Out of nowhere, it had collapsed.
In less than ten minutes, several other companies were also investigated, and their personnel were also taken into custody.
The entire business community in Kyoto was on edge, with many companies voluntarily cooperating with the authorities to avoid further scrutiny.
Then, an even more startling revelation emerged.
Liang Guodong, CEO of the Liang Group, had transferred 80% of his shares to a mysterious figure.
Furthermore, he announced that all of his future income would be donated to children in impoverished mountain regions.
