Arson's POV
"Seriously Matt where is she!"
"Why the hell do you care where she is?" I slam his back against the lockers one more time drawing a bigger crowd around us.
"Just answer the damn question!"
"No"
"I'm going to ask you one more time where is she?"
"And I'm going to ask you one more time why do you want to know?" I punch him across the face and let him drop to the floor as I storm out of the school drawing the crowd's eyes towards me as I leave. Two weeks I haven't seen or heard from Amber and I can't help but have this worried feeling that something isn't right. When I didn't see her the day after our encounter I thought it was because she needed some time to herself. After a week of her not showing up I went to her house to check if she was okay and no one was there. The house was completely empty no sign of life, throughout the week I went back after school to see if anyone came back but they never did. That's where my mind is controlling the car to drive to, Amber's house, pulling up against the curb I park and wait till someone comes home. I recline the driver's seat and wait that's all I can do. I can't let her go I wasn't lying when I told her she had this hold over me either. What was I turning into what is she doing that has me changing that she has me fighting for something for the very first time in my life. I start rubbing my eyes trying to relieve them from the death stare that I was throwing at the dashboard. The sound of tires against a pavement catch my attention and I sit up to see who it is.
A van pull into Amber's driveway with Mr. and Mrs. Jensen coming out of the driver and passenger seats. The left backseat door opens with Jake stepping out he runs to the other passenger door to open it. That's when I see her the beautiful tan complexion is gone it's now replaced with a pale sickly tone. She seems thinner than before like she was starving herself for months. She turns for a second to look at her surroundings and I curse. Her cheeks are hollow and the rosy color that she held is completely missing. Jake put's her arm around his shoulders and then puts his arm around her waist helping her walk. I watch her go up the drive way in a struggle like it hurts every step she makes. I'm paralyzed to my seat just looking out the window at the girl I love struggle to walk and looking dead. When her front door closes I wait a couple of minutes before taking a breath and heading to the door. Mr. Jensen opens the door after five knocks and gives me a small smile.
"Hey Arson what brings you here?" He, like his daughter, looks bad but not as bad as her. Mr. Jensen looks more tired and Amber looks plain dead. I clear my throat before speaking to him.
"Good afternoon Mr. Jensen is uh Amber home?" He seems to think about my question for a moment before he answers.
"Sorry she's not she went to visit a family member but she should be back soon don't worry about it." I just nod my head while he tells me goodbye and shuts the door promising to tell Amber I stopped by. As I get into the car I wrap my head around what just happened Mr. Jensen lied to me. Amber was home I saw her arrive with my own damn eyes and he told me she was gone. The apartment doesn't sound like a good idea at the moment so I head over to Hales place hoping I can clear my mind.
Hale's apartment looked empty and dark when I entered it. When I enter I shout his name "Hale!" after not hearing a reply from him I went into his bedroom. The room just like the house was dark and the only light that was provided was the light from the bedroom window. The window illuminated the image on the floor before the bead. It looked like a pile of dirty clothes that were thrown there carelessly. As I got closer I could start to make out features that I hadn't noticed before. "Shit Hale!" He was now shaking the needle in his arm indicated the reason. I drop onto the floor next to his body to help him out but he doesn't respond. The only thing I can do for him now would be to get him to the hospital. It seems like hours before the ambulance helps Hale and takes him to the hospital. I don't follow instead I go find the person who supplied Hale with the drugs. Every sharp corner that I make just gives me an adrenalin boost to accomplish what I need to do.
