THE AIR BREEZED right through Olivia's hair. It was a calming breeze that everyone would wish for on a hot day. Her hands were intertwined with Tommy as they set on a path right next to a park. The sound of kids laughing and giggling heard in the background. Even though Olivia and Tommy didn't have a place in mind they enjoyed each other's company.
"How does some ice cream sound?" Tommy asked his eyes moving towards her soft face spotting all of her soft features.
Olivia's smile was as bright as the sun at the mention of ice cream, "Sounds perfect." she replied, her voice light just barely above a whisper. Her unoccupied hand made their way towards a strand of hair tucking it slightly behind her ear.
Tommy felt his heart quicken as he watched her do something so simple, he was mesmerized by her in the most simplest ways. "uhm I know a spot." his hand squeezed her as he started walking right in front of her leading her. "They have some really good flavors I promise you."
Olivia's eyes lit up imaging all of the possible flavors of ice creams, "Mmm I could go for some mint chocolate."
Tommy quickly stopped walking, Olivia hadn't noticed till she felt her arm jerk backwards, she took time to look at him and he was looking at her in mock disgust, "I'm sorry did you say mint chocolate?"
Olivia had the confused look on her face, "What's wrong with mint chocolate?" she asked, her hands leaving Tommy's crossing them in the process.
Tommy had looked around, all dramatically building to whatever was happening, "What do you mean what's wrong with mint chocolate. There's so much better." Tommy ended with a shrug and a slight smile.
"Like what?" Olivia's rolled her eyes, her arms still crossed at the sudden strays that her favorite ice cream flavor was receiving. "Don't even say chocolate or rocky road." her finger went up ready to silence him before he got the chance to speak.
"What's wrong with rocky road." Tommy asked his arms now crossed as he stood across from the girl.
"It's to much sugar?" Olivia responded,
"andd? We all deserve a little bit of sugar."
"Yeah a little bit, not enough to give you diabetes."
"That's dramatic."
"Maybe a little."
"How about we trade flavors then huh? If we don't like then we just get our original flavors?" Tommy suggested, a small smile tugging on his lips. His hands reaching out for Olivia's ready to take her right to the store he had in mind.
Olivia and Tommy were now back at the same park sitting on a bench, they tried to make their ice cream last as long as possible. Each adamant on eating them together, but the idea proved to have a flaw as their fingers slowly became sticky with the sun melting their ice cream.
Olivia reached into her bag looking for the napkins she had stuffed inside knowing she might of needed them later. She handed one right to Tommy who looked as if he was ready to just like the excess right of his fingers to avoid wasting any of the treat.
"Eww Tommy," Olivia exclaimed, crinkling her nose in mock disgust. "I have napkins heree."
Tommy only rolled his eyes, trying to come up with a snarky remark, "Acting as if you don't do this."
"Not when I am with other people!" Olivia admitted as she begin to laugh slightly, she hadn't handed him the napkin but ended up being bold and decided to wipe his face herself. Even though she had decided to do it, she felt her pulse quicken as soon as her fingers got close towards his face.
The feeling however was mutual, even with what they have done already, every close touch felt strong.
After cleaning his face, Olivia gave him a small smile before Tommy leaned in instinctively and gave her a small peck on her lips, each kiss they've shared made the world feel as if it had disappeared and as if it was only them 2 there.
"Will you be my girlfriend." Was all Tommy said after they broke apart.
Olivia blinked, her heart racing as she processed his words. The late afternoon sun cast a golden hue over the park, highlighting the soft blush on her cheeks. She had spent countless hours imagining this moment, rehearsing the perfect response in her mind, yet now it felt as if all her practiced lines had evaporated.
"Tommy," she began, her voice barely a whisper, "are you sure?"
He nodded, his deep brown eyes earnest and unwavering. "We've been going out so much, in this talking phase for quiet a bit so yeah, yeah I'm sure."
The memories flooded back-their late night phone calls, their dates that he had pleaded to let him pay for. It had all led to this moment and she felt there was only right answer.
"Of course Tommy." Her face was bright, she was ready to be there for him in the upcoming future.
He broke into a wide grin that made Olivia's heart flip. "Really? You mean it?"
"Really," she affirmed, her own smile growing as she took in the thrill of his excitement. The world around them faded, the laughter of children playing nearby and the rustling leaves becoming distant echoes. All that mattered was this moment, suspended in time.
Tommy stepped closer, his hand brushing against hers, tentative yet bold. "You won't regret it. I promise."
Olivia felt a flutter of hope, mingling with the remnants of uncertainty. She believed him; she had to. The warmth of his palm against hers ignited something deep within her—a spark that felt like promise, potential, and a little bit of magic.
