OLIVIA'S FORK PICKED right at the orange chicken, the noises of the other teacher's should of been louder then her heartbeat, but it wasn't. It had felt as if she had ran a marathon and then did every possible work out right after times 100.
Her personal computer was the source of why Olivia felt this way, her mind had been on re-play on her promising Tommy she would consider going for leave. Something in her couldn't believe she was actually debating on staying a teacher, but hearing how Tommy felt made her heart shatter.
"So what's wrong now." A voice pulled her out of her thoughts.
Olivia's eyes traveled to the owner of the voice who else would it be outside of her friend Amaya, "What nothing is wrong." Olivia cleared her throat, popping a piece of chicken into her mouth.
"Then why do you look like a lost puppy." Amaya chuckled lightly, sitting across from her friend as she reached into her own bag pulling out her lunch.
Olivia rolled her eyes leaning back as she chewed on another piece of chicken, "I do not look like that. If anything I look like a cute puppy." her face pouting earning another laugh from Amaya.
"Sure, but clearly you are thinking about something big." Amaya slightly pried as she shook her lunch in the Tupperware box.
The younger girl let out a sigh as she looked around the room, hoping no one was secretly listening to them, "So you know how Tommy and I talked it out?" Olivia asked, adding this in for context to the older girl.
Amaya only nodded, not wanting to waste time and get right into the whatever it was that was having her friend all in her thoughts.
Olivia's cracked her fingers, shifting slightly in the chair, "So yeah uhm, I told him that I would uhm consider leaving here." The girl stuttered and lowered her voice.
The older woman was taken aback, her eyes widened in surprise, her eyes traveling across the room. Her fingers tapping along the table, not even picking up her own fork to try and eat her own lunch, this was a truth bomb just dropped right on her.
"And you are thinking about how you are going to do it?" Amaya inquired.
Olivia nodded, "I've been working on a possible resignation email, but every time I even try and type it I just get scared of if I am even making the right decision. Like it's a just in case and I am already thinking about if I should even be doing it." Olivia's hands rubbing her eye lids, her food completely forgotten about.
"I mean that's a big jump. Like I get you have only been working here for almost 2 years, but wow...wow...I don't even know what to think. I'll support you no matter what happens but like wow..." Amaya kept repeating herself, while she was an older lady she was hardly ever a worn down record player that was stuck on repeating the same part over and over.
Olivia shrugged hearing her friend, "I know it's a massive jump, but compromise is important. I mean I could look for opportunities to be a teacher online, I could look at being a substitute that comes in when I am needed."
Amaya leaned back into the chair, thoughtful contemplation running through her head, "I know it is, and of course those sound amazing and perfect since you want to be a teacher and yeah those fall under being a teacher, but it's going to be a massive change."
Olivia once again nodded, I know, plus I wouldn't be making this change or even be considering it if I feel as though it wasn't necessary. Tommy's feelings also matter and decisions I make now also reflect on him and our relationship." A smile etched onto her face, "Plus being there with him in person so much more just feels right. No longer needing to wait for his FaceTime calls after games, or having to say good morning or goodnight through texts. It can be all done face to face now."
Hearing Olivia say her peace about the small details of her relationship of what it would mean if Olivia left her job, brought a smile to Amaya's face and it wasn't because of what Olivia was saying or how lovey dovey it sounded. It was because it was obvious to Amaya that Olivia was already talking and feeling the emotions as if she already did hand in her resignation letter.
"You keep talking like that and I will think you already had made your decision and you are just stalling." The girl chuckled.
Olivia's ears perked up, "Not yet, it's just me thinking about the future that's all."
"It's the future you want." Amaya pointed out seeing the smile on Olivia's face.
"Possibly." The girl shot back.
"Then what are you waiting for, make this big jump and go be happy." Amaya stated, her hands making the shoo motion signaling for Olivia to just leave in a joking manner.
"Not yet, I need to go back to eating before this gets cold, and before I must go back to teaching them about shapes." Olivia joked, picking up multiple pieces of chicken trying to fit as much as she could in her mouth.
However something about, Not Yet really stuck with her, not yet...
