"Because The World Is Not Kind"

It had been a week since the Courriers took me to my new home. They already had two children; I didn't understand why they would want another one... especially a Luciferi that stood out so easily.

"Jae-sang? Are you listening sweetie?" Mrs. Courrier asked as she kneeled in front of me.

"Yeah?" I replied.

"He wasn't listening,"

Mr. Courrier gently hit Se Jun's head.

"It's okay if you feel overwhelmed with all of this Jae-sang," Mr. Courrier spoke, "It's not an easy process,"

"Do I really have to change my name?"

"It's for the best sweetie," Mrs. Courrier smiled softly.

"I don't want to!" I glared and scooted back, staying into a corner of the couch, "I like how I look! I like my name! Take me back! I hate it here and I hate everyone too!"

"Se Jun, go back to your room," Mr. Courrier ordered.

Se Jun listened and left. Mr. Courrier grabbed a mirror and kneeled next to his wife.

"Jae-sang, do me a favor and look in this mirror," He said.

I listened and stared at my reflection.

"What color are your eyes,"

"Blue and grey," I answered.

"And your hair?"

"White... but because I'm a Luciferi! Not a human!" I glared and lifted my hoodie, pulling it as tight as I could, "You're not changing my hair or my eyes! You're not!"

"Jae-sang... we're trying to-"

"Let them kill me! I know why! I want to die a Luciferi!" I interrupted.

"You're not just a Luciferi, you are a mix of both humans and Luciferis," Mr. Courrier said.

I let go of my hoodie and turned to look at them.

"What?"

"A Luciferi, does not bleed red, and their eyes are not a different color like yours," He sighed, "You're a demi, a mix of both species,"

"Why would they kill Nari...?" I mumbled.

"What did you say?" Mrs. Courrier asked.

"Why would they kill me? If I bleed red too..." I asked, "I didn't choose to be a Luciferi,"

"It's not your fault Jae-sang," Mrs. Courrier smiled softly.

"The world is not kind, Jae-sang," Mr. Courrier said.

"Yun Jun, you're not helping," Mrs. Courrier sighed, "Listen, my dear, the world can be cruel, but that doesn't mean it can't be kind too, and if you let us, we'll protect you from it because you're our precious little boy,"

I reluctantly nodded, not believing in her words, but I wanted to. Nari won't come back... but Soleil will, and right now I had to stay alive for her to find me.

"Okay,"

"I'll call Delaney right away, dear, you can choose his new name," said Mr. Courrier, "He'll carry mine regardless,"

"Charming love," She smiled.

Mr. Courrier smiled as well and walked away with his phone in hand.

"Jae-sang, what do you think of Victor for your first name?"

"I never heard that name," I shrugged.

"It was my grandfather's. I think it will go perfectly with you," She smiled, "Now, for your middle name, how about Hyacinth? Like the flower,"

I crossed my arms.

"No, I don't want to be named after a flower! I'm a boy,"

"Oh, but you're my little boy!" Mrs. Courrier giggled, "You're mine like Se Jun and Sofi, all my beautiful children must be named after a flower,"

"I guess it's okay..." I grumbled.

"Perfect! Victor Hyacinth Courrier will be your new name!" She smiled, "Do you like it? It has a nice ring to it,"

"I like my name," I agreed.
