Mikaela's Perspective
Monday, September 21st, 2037.
Morning.
6:00 AM
Seven days... It's been seven days since Courrier offered me that information. I placed my tablet next to me and leaned my head against my bed.
"I'm running out of time..." I grumbled, "And I have another one coming up..."
"Mika! Sweetie!"
"Mother, what are you doing here?" I asked.
"I came looking for you, my sweet torment," She smiled.
My mother picked up my tablet and sat down next to me.
"Why haven't you come down for breakfast? I tried to make your favorite dish along with Kari's," She smiled.
"Is that why I smelled smoke?" I sighed, "Mother, you can't cook,"
"I did say I tried," She smiled.
I chuckled.
"Now, why haven't you come down and joined us for breakfast?" My mother asked and looked at my tablet, "What's all this? My little raven? Are you reading?"
I shook my head.
"I'm working on some student council assignments," I lied.
"So early in the morning? Come on, you need to have breakfast," She said, took my tablet and stood up, "You'll have this back when you're done eating,"
I stood up and sighed.
"It is best I finish my work first! Ideas may leave my brain while I'm distracted," I said.
"Your tablet is grounded for the time being!" My mother shouted back as she made her way to the breakfast nook.
I frowned and followed her downstairs.
"Good morning, Missus Delaney, Miss Mikaela," Sebastian greeted us.
"Oh, tone it down, Sebby," Mother spoke, "My parents aren't here, so that dumb tradition isn't needed,"
"May I say how much I enjoy your presence, Missus Delaney?" Sebastian smiled.
I wasn't the best at telling sarcasm, but Sebastian's was laid out so clearly.
"Love you too! Here, put my daughter's best friend in the tallest cupboard, she's grounded," said my mother as she gave my tablet to Sebastian, "She's becoming a workaholic,"
"Good parenting, Mom," said Kari as we watched Sebastian do as he was ordered, "She won't leave her tablet alone for 5 minutes,"
"Since we are on the topic of good parenting, may I suggest adding more limitations on Kari's shopping habits?" I said and took my seat next to her.
"Well, that was unnecessary," She frowned.
"Sorry, my little raven, but you're not in the right this time," said my mother as she sipped her coffee, "You need to eat,"
I frowned and stared down at my breakfast. It was a pancake shaped like a raven with blueberries and raspberries on the side, everything separated just like I liked it.
"Why am I having the same thing as Kari?"
"Missus Delaney attempted to make breakfast today and burnt most of the ingredients we had to make your favorite breakfast," said Sebastian.
"We had an extra box of pancake mix though," Kari added, "She didn't burn that,"
"Wow, thank you, snitch," My mother scoffed and rolled her eyes.
