It was a quiet night, and the sound of rain tapping against the windows of the villa added a soothing melody to the atmosphere. Andrea and Jane had decided to share the bed that evening, a habit they had kept since childhood whenever one of them needed comfort. Despite the changes in their lives, the bond between the twins had remained unbreakable.
Jane lay on her back, one hand under her head and the other resting gently on her belly. Andrea, on the other hand, was asleep on her side, her arm draped slightly over her sister. Their steady breathing was the only sound in the room.
It was nearly one in the morning when Andrea woke up suddenly, without any apparent reason. She opened her eyes slowly, still caught between sleep and wakefulness. Then she felt it.
A small movement, a gentle touch against the palm of her hand. She startled slightly, confused. Then it happened again: a firm yet surprisingly delicate kick from Jane's belly. Andrea's eyes widened as she realized what it was.
"Jane," she whispered, shaking her gently.
Jane let out a soft groan, still half asleep. "What is it, Andrea? It's late..."
"I felt a kick," Andrea said, her voice full of emotion and disbelief.
Jane woke up fully at those words. "A kick? Really?"
Andrea nodded enthusiastically. "Yes! It was the baby. I felt it clearly."
Jane smiled, placing both hands on her belly. "Again?" she asked, almost like a prayer.
As if the little one had heard her, another kick followed shortly after, stronger this time. Jane laughed softly, her heart brimming with joy. "Do you feel it?" she asked, looking at Andrea with tear-filled eyes.
"Yes!" Andrea responded, amazed. She moved closer, pressing her ear against Jane's belly as if to listen. "It's incredible... he's really there. He's making himself known."
Jane stroked Andrea's head, deeply moved. "It's a little miracle, isn't it?"
Andrea sat up, looking Jane in the eyes. "He's going to be the luckiest baby in the world. With a mom like you... and, of course, an aunt like me."
Jane chuckled softly, wiping away a tear. "I don't know what I'd do without you, Andrea. Truly."
"You'll never get rid of me, sis," Andrea replied with a determined smile. "I'm always here. For you and for him. Always."
