The pain and guilt weighed like a rock on Alex's heart. He left Piper's hospital room. Piper sacrificed herself for her, but why? Her mind was grinding, full of questions and memories, and in that moment she longed to empty it.

He went to a nearby shop, came in and was attracted by some bottles of vodka. Once paid, he returned home with the heavy burden of a wrong choice.

Once inside, he laid everything on the table and collapsed on the sofa. The bottle opened, and the amber liquid discouraged the thoughts that were trying to surface. He continued to drink, as if with each sip he could numb the pain he felt. Without realizing it, the void filled with alcohol, but the question remained: why?

A knock interrupted,With difficulty he got up and headed for the door. It was Nicky, who needed no words to understand the torment that afflicted Alex. He leaned against the wall next to her, and the anxiety in his eyes revealed his disappointment. "What the hell, Vause, did you drink?" He asked, frustration and concern mixed in the voice.

"Sure," Alex replied, in a tone that didn't promise anything good.

"Why did you do that?" Nicky pressed.

"I miss Piper too much. I feel guilty," he confessed, dropping his defenses.

Nicky stepped forward, his gaze softened. "I have good news for you, Vause," he declared with fresh determination.

"Tell me," asked Alex, hoping for something that would lift her heart.

"Go to the hospital. There is someone waiting for you and they love you," said Nicky.

The words rang out in Alex's mind as an echo of hope. He dressed quickly, grabbed his car keys and invited Nicky to follow her. Within minutes they were at the hospital, and Alex felt stuck in the space in front of Piper's room. Anxiety devoured her but a impulse of courage pushed her to enter. And when she saw Piper awake, finally, a wave of relief went through her body.

He approached, and his lips met those of Piper in a kiss full of emotion. Tears began to run down her face, and Piper saw them. "I did it to save you," said Piper in a trembling but loving voice.

"What?" asked Alex, confused.

"The night of the accident I was there, almost unconscious. I saw you running, you took me and made me lean on you. And at that moment, you asked me: 'Why did you do it?'. I answered you, just like now: I love you more than anything else, Alexandra Vause. You are my life. That night, I had to save you, even if it cost my own life, because I could never do without you".

Piper moved to make room for Alex, and they hugged, squeezing each other until sleep enveloped them in a peaceful embrace.

Alex woke up, feeling the warmth of Piper's body beneath her. He plunged into the moment and gently stroked Piper's head, kissing her. "Good morning love," she said, as she saw her eyes open.

"Good morning, Piper," Alex replied, returning the kiss.

Shortly afterwards, a doctor entered the room, announcing: "I have good news, Piper can be discharged today". Joy lit up Piper's face, who turned to Alex, hugging her with gratitude.

"Can I sign the resignation papers now?" asked Piper, her voice full of enthusiasm.

"Of course," the doctor replied.

After a short moment, the doctor returned with the documents. Calmly, Piper got up from her bed, and Alex held her as a nurse carried a wheelchair.

They left the room together, went down in the elevator and once out, Alex picked her up and carried her to the passenger side.

They came home and Alex picked her up again, laid her gently on the couch and immediately started cooking, soaking the house in the familiar scents that they loved so much.

"Pipes, it's ready," he announced after about thirty minutes, taking her hand and leading her to the table.

After eating, Alex accompanied Piper to bed, lying next to her. He laid a hand on his side and clenched it to himself as they slowly fell asleep, finally in peace.
