Jake stared up at the ceiling, small tears leaving his eyes.

After they sedated him, he woke up in the pajama-like hospital clothes and already in bed, covered up until his shoulders.

He blinked slowly as he took in a deep but calm breath.

He closed his eyes for a couple of seconds, but he opened them again once he felt a hand against his hair.

Jake's eyes met Sonny's, and his eyebrows furrowed before even more tears of relief left his eyes.

"You're here. You didn't leave."

She gently ran her hands through his hair as she gave him a sweet smile.

"Don't worry too much." She whispered, placing a gentle kiss on his temple. "Why would I leave?"

"Where...were you?" Jake muttered as he stared at her.

"I was with you. I heard you talk about me."

"W-what did you hear?"

"You said that you didn't want to leave me alone at home, because something would happen to me."

"I said that?" He whispered in confusion.

"You said that someone would hurt me, so you wanted to go back home." Sonny said as she sat down on the bed, crossing her arms over her chest.

"I-I didn't know I said that." He said, disoriented as he looked up at the ceiling for a few seconds before looking at her again.

Sonny watched him as he slowly stood up from the bed, his head pounding as he remembered the reason he was in this room now.

That asshole...

Jake paced slowly as he bit his thumb nail.

He was connecting every dot.

The cement in Sonny's apartment, the landlord being at the door every time Jake was with Sonny, the hole in the wall that hadn't been fixed yet, the bartender trying to lead him to think he was the one involved in Sonny's murder by writing 'you' on the receipt.

Every time they were at the bar, he was there.

Jake's brain was racing.

He ran a hand through his hair as he bit his lip.

"I'm so happy that you found him, Jake. But you need to watch your back from now on." She said gently as she shook her head.

"Why?" He said as he walked a little closer to her, his steps hesitant.

"Now he knows that you know. Right?"

Jake nodded his head as he sat down on the bed next to her.

"Can I hug you?" She asked in a broken whisper and Jake stared at her in confusion, before nodding his head.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, and he hesitantly wrapped his arms around her waist.

"Sonny." He said as he furrowed his eyebrows.

"None of what happened was your fault, Jake." She whispered in his ear as she caressed the back of his head. "None of it."

Jake stared at the wall behind her as he kept his chin against her shoulder. "I was the one who left you alone-"

"No, you did the right thing. You went to work that night like the responsible person that you are. Your duty was not to protect me. You didn't know what was going to happen, Jake. You didn't. I asked you to stay that night, not because I was scared, but because I was selfish and wanted to spend more time with you." She cried softly, making Jake close his eyes tightly. "It's not your fault and it never has been."
