𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐃 slowly, almost devastatingly so. It felt like forever that the blaring of the alarm system rang through Nessa's ears as she sobbed quietly, her body piled onto Zach, who was leaning against Winston. No matter how today ended, the three of them would be bonded for life.

But, finally, they were able to see the light.

The PA beeped, again, and Nessa had never been more excited to hear the miserable sound of Principal Bolan's voice.

"This lockdown is all clear. I repeat. This lockdown is all clear. An announcement will be made shortly to provide staff and students instruction."

The tension in the room was gone almost immediately, and Nessa grabbed onto Zach's shoulders as she hugged him tightly, almost afraid to let go. The two boys wasted no time taking down the barricade that Zach had created, now that the effects of the gummies had almost worn off entirely.

"Hey, Winston." Zach began, and Winston paused to look at him. "What I said earlier, about what happened with Bryce. I was super out of it."

Winston nodded, pulling his backpack over his shoulder. "And even though you didn't kill Bryce that night, you also don't want to be known as the guy who beat the shit out of him before he died, right?"

Winston almost sounded genuine, but Nessa knew that he couldn't be trusted. Not yet, anyways. The three of them may have bonded, but he was still suspicious, and needed to be treated as such.

"Yeah." Zach said dryly. "Exactly."

"Don't worry." Winston told the boy, but he looked over at Nessa too. "I can keep a secret."

"Thanks, man." Zach replied, and he and Nessa began to leave the classroom when Winston spoke up yet again, causing them to freeze in their tracks.

"Except, here's the thing." Winston said as he stepped closer to the siblings, Zach in particular.

"If you know for a fact that you didn't kill Bryce, then you must know who did, right?"

Nessa looked down at her shoes, fiddling with her hands as Zach grabbed his things, trying to come up with an answer that gave no suspicion.

"No, man." Zach told him. "I really don't"

Zach and Nessa didn't give Winston a chance to respond before they both barrelled out the door, a familiar voice shouting catching their attention.

"You know what would make me feel safe?" the familiar voice shouted as Zach and Nessa made their way into the hallways with a bunch of other students, following the sound as they saw Clay Jensen standing in the middle of the hallway, his rage focused on Principal Bolan and the numerous police officers with guns in their hands.

"Not having to go to a school with metal detectors, or video cameras, or armed fucking guards!"

The hallways were beginning to fill up now, and Nessa clutched onto her backpack straps as she scanned the halls for Scott, who she was dying to wrap her arms around right now.
