act two / monty was framed

𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐀'𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐆𝐄 interview, she was ecstatic. Nothing could ruin her day, in her opinion. Which is why, when Justin texted her and asked if she could meet him in the courtyard before his interview, Nessa of course obliged.

She pushed the doors of the school open, looking around for Justin in his suit. She found him, sitting on a bench outside, alone. His head was resting in his hands, covering his entire face.

"Hey, J!" Nessa said as she wrapped her arms around him. "Are you ready to kill your interview?"

Justin looked up at Nessa, and as soon as her eyes met his, she knew something was wrong. His eyes were dark, and the surrounding skin was swollen. It was obvious that he had been crying, and for quite awhile now.

"Justin, what's wrong?" Nessa asked as she pulled him into her chest, trying to offer comfort.

"It's, um." Justin began, his voice breaking. "It's my mom, Ness."

Nessa's heart broke, and she already knew the answer. However, she wanted to make sure. She wanted to give the universe one chance to tell her that she was wrong.

"What about her?" Nessa asked nervously as she rubbed Justin's shoulder, and she felt tears prickling in her own eyes.

"She's dead, Nessa." Justin managed to say before he choked out a sob, his frame melting into Nessa's chest as he grabbed onto her for support. "My mom is dead."

"Oh, my God. Justin." Nessa replied through her own tears. She knew that Justin and his mom weren't close, and the woman was not her favorite person by any means, but she was still Justin's mother. And this was eating him alive, Nessa could tell.

"What happened?" Nessa asked, and Justin just shook his head. "Standall said they're waiting on some report to tell them if she OD'ed, which I already know is what happened anyways."

"God, I'm so sorry, Justin." Nessa spoke up, because she had no other words for this.

"I just didn't know who else to call." Justin admitted. "You're like, the only person who understands me, or how hard it is to lose a parent."

Nessa hated that he was right, and she hated that she knew how this felt. However, she was glad that Justin had someone. He needed the support, and she would bend over backwards to give it to him.

"Well, I'll always be here." Nessa told him. "That'll never change."

"I know." Justin said through a broken sob. "You think you could go with me to tell the Jensen's after my interview? I really don't want to be alone for that."

Nessa wasted no time nodding her head. "Of course, I will. Meet me in the parking lot after school, we'll go get something to eat before."

"Alright." Justin agreed, mustering a sheepish smile at Nessa. "Thank you, Ness."
