The next morning, the sun rose lazily over the Thousand Sunny, casting a golden glow over the open sea. The waves gently lapped against the ship, their rhythmic sound mingling with the occasional cries of seagulls overhead. The day promised calm, but as always with the Straw Hat Pirates, calm never lasted long.
“We got it!” Luffy’s jubilant shout rang out across the deck, his voice brimming with excitement.
“I caught a pretty cool shark, huh?” Y/N added, beaming as he gripped his fishing gear tightly, his chest puffed out with pride.
“Put it in the fish tank!” Usopp’s grinned, his excitement mirroring Luffy’s. “Let’s go check it out!”
“We have to see it in the fish tank!” Luffy laughed, his signature chuckle echoing as he raced toward the aquarium door.
“Yo!!” The boys burst into the aquarium room, practically skidding to a stop as they flung the door open.
“Did the shark get in there? The one with the huge horns?!” Luffy asked, his eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Robin was seated nearby, her elegant composure unshaken by their chaos. She sipped her tea leisurely, glancing at the group with a knowing smile. “Yes, it did... but all the fish you’ve caught up until now have disappeared, you see?”
Luffy, Usopp and Y/N screamed in unison, their faces pale with horror as they looked into the tank. The once vibrant collection of fish was gone, the horned shark now the undisputed ruler of the aquarium.
“THINK OF THE FOOD CHAIN! Of course this was going to happen!” Sanji shouted at them, his hands planted firmly on his hips as he gave them a death glare.
“Argh!” Luffy growled, punching his fist into his palm. “We’re having that bastard for dinner! Sanji, barbecue that stupid shark whole!”
Sanji sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose as though physically pained by his suggestion. “Hold on, it’s a fresh fish. We can either make sushi out of it, lightly boil it and serve it with some spicy vinegar miso, or maybe prepare a nice tempura dish.”
“All right! Let’s eat it as a snack!” Luffy grinned, practically drooling at the thought.
“Wait until dinner!” Sanji snapped, glaring at him.
Before the argument could escalate, Zoro’s voice boomed down from the watchtower. “Hey! There’s something floating in the ocean!”
“What is it?!” Luffy called back, his attention immediately diverted.
“A barrel! Look, it says ‘treasure’ on it!” Zoro shouted, pointing toward the object bobbing on the waves.
“No way! Could it have fallen off a treasure ship?!” Luffy’s eyes widened, already envisioning piles of gold and riches.
“Treasure?!” Chopper and Usopp exclaimed in unison, their imaginations running wild.
Nami strolled up, her expression far more practical as she peered over the side. “Nope. That’s probably just some booze and preserved food.”
“How can you tell without looking inside?” Y/N asked, turning to her with a raised brow.
Nami crossed her arms, a smirk playing on her lips. “Can’t you read what it says? ‘A treasure offering to the sea god.’ The practice is called barrel drifting. It’s a prayer for safe passage—an offering to the guardian spirit of the sea. That ‘treasure’ means it’s an offering to god.”
Zoro, now sat casually on the bench, rolled his eyes. “Then why’d we even bother picking it up?”
“I bet it’s booze. Let’s drink it,” he added with a shrug, already imagining the taste of strong liquor.
