"You've been out since morning and you're not hungry. How is that possible?"
Sparsh was changing into his nightwear while Ragini was storming him with questions as to why he didn't pick up the calls, why he was so late, why he didn't reply to her text messages and many more. But she didn't get reply to any of her questions. She was now feeling frustrated.
Without answering any of her questions, Sparsh went into the washroom. Ragini felt more frustrated and followed him.
"What are you doing?" asked Sparsh with a frustrated voice.
"This is what I should ask you. What exactly are you doing? Why are you avoiding me? Did I do something to upset you? Why are you acting so cold? You were out all day and you didn't even bother sending me a single text. Forget about sending one, you didn't even reply to the ones I sent. Everything was fine between us last night. Why are you acting strangely tonight?"
Sparsh didn't even look at Ragini and continued with washing his face. Ragini was anxious and her eyes were welling up. She held his hand and said, "I love you."
Sparsh's eyes landed at Ragini's face. He was oblivious as to why he was reacting like that. He was making his wife cry. He felt ashamed and guilty. Ragini tightened her grip around his hand and gently caressed his cheek. "Is something worrying you?" she asked.
"I'm scared," said Sparsh while Ragini cupped his face into her palms.
"Scared of what?"
"Of losing you."
"Why? Why would you lose me? What exactly are you thinking about? You should tell me what's on your mind instead of acting so cold. Do you even know how worried I was?"
Sparsh hugged Ragini tightly and whispered, "I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I don't know what's wrong with me nowadays."
"I know what's wrong. I'm aware of what's happening with you."
Sparsh looked puzzled and sensing that, Ragini said, "You are working too much. You are rarely at home nowadays. Ma said you are turning back into the workaholic you used to be."
Sparsh smiled and then sighed, "Maybe you are right."
Ragini pulled Sparsh by his collar and said, "Let's go for honeymoon. We never went for one."
"So you wanna go for honeymoon? Why? What are you gonna do there?" said Sparsh and picked her up into his strong arms.
"As if you don't know!" Ragini pinched his cheeks.
"Don't tickle me, Sparsh. You're so mean!" Ragini was laughing uncontrollably while Sparsh enjoyed playing with his wife. They both looked perfect with each other.
"Baby, can I ask you something?"
Ragini nodded. Sparsh had mustered up the courage to ask her directly about the things bothering him. He trusted his wife and brother. He was sure there was nothing between them and this was also the reason he was scared to ask her. He knew she would be angry but decided to go for it because he knew one more thing- she would understand him. She, despite of her anger, would understand his situation and forgive him for the misunderstanding.
They were both hugging each other and could listen to each other's hearts beating. Sparsh tightened his grip around Ragini with the intention of not loosening it even if she told him to do so.
He was scared but he needed to do it. So he began. He began with the day he saw them hugging. He also mentioned how an hour ago they were giggling. He accepted that it was a misunderstanding on his behalf and he himself knew this."I just need an assurance from you. Please don't get angry. I know I'm wrong here but I hope you understand where I'm coming from. Just tell me I'm being stupid and crazy. If you want, just slap me. Call me names, if you want. Ok?"
There was no response. She was sleeping. She had drifted to the dreamland even before he had begun. He couldn't help but smile at the innocent smile on his sleeping wife's charming face. At that moment, he realised that he didn't need any kind of assurance. Her being beside him on his bed was the best assurance for him. He promised himself not to allow such weird and nonsense thoughts to his mind again. He planted a gentle kiss on his wife's lips before planting another on her forehead.
"I love you, my life. I love you the most," he whispered and closed his eyes while holding his wife, tightly.
In his room, Sid was sitting on the floor with a glass full of whisky in his hand. In his another hand was his phone. He was going through his old pictures with Ragini and all those past memories rushed back and he couldn't help smiling.
"You belong to me, Rags. You're mine. I let go of you once, but not again. Not anymore. I'll make you mine again, no matter what. I love you like crazy!"
NEXT MORNING
"So, you're finally going for honeymoon?" asked Ma when the couple announced their trip on the breakfast table.Ragini blushed and Sparsh nodded.
"Have you decided the destination?" asked Papa.
"Your daughter-in-law wants to visit Portugal so yeah, we're going there," Sparsh replied.
"Sid, help them book their tickets and make the required arrangements," said Papa.
Sid nodded with a smile. At that moment, Sparsh got rid of all the doubts and suspicions in his mind.
"Ragini was right, I'm stressed about work. All these nonsensical thoughts are the product of my workaholic trait. My mind needs rest," Sparsh thought to himself.
The adults were looking forward to the good news they'll receive after the couple's honeymoon trip. They couldn't wait to cradle their grandchild in their arms. There was happiness all around.
