His words hit me like a slap in the face. "What do you mean we're under attack?" I whispered, my voice quivering with fear.

Egon's deep growl resonated in his chest as his sharp eyes scanned the area around us. His entire body was rigid, ready to spring into action at the first sign of danger.

"Rogues," he growled, the word dripping with loathing. "I don't know how many, but I can hear them charging this way. I've already called the pack back from the hunt, but they're too far."

His frustration was palpable as he exhaled sharply. "Where are Leif and Rolf when I need them?" he hissed through gritted teeth.

My stomach churned as panic set in. "What's going to happen?" I asked, my voice trembling. "What about the group by the campfire? The Omegas? My father, Tauriel, Marielle, the others?"

The thought of the humans at the edge of the city struck me like a blow. "The humans," I gasped, my breath catching in my throat. "The humans from the camps."

Egon's hands cupped my face, his touch gentle despite the fire in his eyes. "I've already sent some warriors to escort all of the humans and the Omegas to the shelters. You'll join them as soon as Leif and Rolf get here."

As if summoned by his words, Leif suddenly appeared beside us, his eyes wide and his posture tense.

"Where's Rolf?" Egon demanded, his tone sharp.

Leif's expression tightened. "I don't know, Alpha. He went to the kitchens, believing his duties were done for the night. He's got his walls up—I can't mind link him."

Egon's jaw tightened, a vein throbbing at his temple as he fought to rein in his frustration. He took a deep breath. "Take Esmara to the shelters," Egon ordered. "Mind link me once you're there."

Leif inclined his head obediently and stepped closer, waiting for me to follow.

I hesitated, my feet rooted as I looked back at Egon. What if something happened to him and I never saw him again? Every fibre of my being screamed to stay by his side, yet I knew I'd only be a hindrance. Tears welled in my eyes, and I struggled to breathe through the knot in my throat. Egon's hands tightened slightly on my face, his gaze unwavering.

"Everything will be fine," he whispered softly. "I'll come back to you when this is over. But I need you to be safe. Go with Leif now—I can't keep the pack waiting any longer."

Though my heart rebelled, I nodded. This wasn't the time to let my doubts or emotions slow him down. "I love you," I whispered, my voice breaking.

Egon's lips claimed mine in a fierce, desperate kiss before he pulled back, his voice rough with emotion. "I love you too."

Turning to Leif, his gaze hardened. "Keep her safe."

"With my life, Alpha," Leif vowed.

With a final nod, Egon spun on his heel, transforming mid-step into his towering Lycan. His thunderous roar tore through the night, a deafening sound of dominance and power that seemed to shake the earth itself. Without another glance back, he surged forward, his powerful strides crushing plants beneath him as he raced towards the danger.

"Luna," Leif called, pulling me from my trance. His urgency was clear.

I turned to him, nodding. "Let's go."

Gathering my skirts, I ran after him, my legs struggling to match his swift, purposeful strides. The gardens blurred around us, their usual tranquillity replaced by the ominous sense of impending danger. Leif's hand hovered near the hilt of his sword, his eyes constantly scanning for threats as every muscle in his body was tense.
