𝐋𝐘𝐍𝐄𝐘 𝐀𝐖𝐎𝐊𝐄 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 his agonising slumber, panicked and haggard breaths escaping his lips in quick gasps. It appeared to be a never ending battle for breath; his lungs denying him of the air he craved so badly.
The male's body appeared to have a mind of its own — refusing to listen to reason. It trembled in terror as he slowly sat upright in bed. The sheets felt cold — oh, so cold.
However, a spark of warmth soon spread across his quivering hand. He recognised the gentle caress of fingertips dancing across his skin, a flame igniting deep within him. It served to warm his entire being.
Lyney's trembling figure visibly stilled as he felt the comforting embrace of another silently welcome him within the darkness of the room. A relieved sigh pushed past his lips upon realising that he was, indeed, safe.
"Lyney..." The voice the male had grown to utterly adore sliced through the tense silence within the bedroom. "Did you have another nightmare?"
Lyney remained quiet for a moment or so, attempting to gather his scrambled thoughts. He often found it difficult to determine what he had dreamt and what was, in fact, reality. The lines always appeared to be blurred for him.
"You..." The male's voice came out as a shuddery breath. "You left me alone again..."
His fingers laced with the other's.
"But... It wasn't your fault. It wouldn't ever be your fault."
As if trying to convince himself that the person laying beside him was, indeed, real and not a simple figment of his imagination, Lyney proceeded to lift their hand up to his lips, where he pressed gentle kisses to each one of their knuckles with much tenderness.
"It's always the same horrid nightmare..." Whispered Lyney, "You... You don't make it. It torments my mind whenever it pleases. I doubt it will ever pass..."
The person beside Lyney shifts against the sheets of the bed in order to press their lips against the male's forehead. Their fingers tightened around his own; a simple reminder that they were beside him and had absolutely no plans of leaving anytime soon.
"I'm here." The words were simple, yet reassuring. Lyney nodded, his lips finding the skin of the other's cheek as he allowed for his tense limbs to relax beside them.
"I know you are..." The male breathed against their lips. "And I would like for it to stay that way, my rose."
Y/N smiled warmly, their fingers webbing through their husband's hair.
"Give me your hand." They requested softly, earning a small hum from Lyney. He didn't question them, simply allowing for them to take his hand into their own.
"Do you see these?" Asked Y/N, intertwining their fingers with Lyney's. Their wedding rings glistened in the faint light that filtered into the room from the moon herself.
