Author POV
Wanting to lift the mood, he exhaled softly and muttered, “You know, dear… you’re soaking my shirt.”
Amelia sniffled, her grip loosening slightly as she blinked up at him, her lips slightly pouting. "Hmm?"
Edward smirked, wiping a stray tear from her cheek. "At this rate, I’ll have to start carrying an extra shirt just for moments like these."
Amelia hiccupped and frowned. “That’s rude,” she mumbled, pushing lightly against his chest. "You should be honored that I chose your shirt for my tears!"
Edward chuckled, finally seeing the familiar stubbornness in her expression. "Oh, of course. How lucky of me," he teased, ruffling her hair playfully.
Amelia pouted deeper, smoothing down her hair. "Stop messing up my hair!"
"Fine, fine," he said, shaking his head in amusement. "But now that you’ve cried your heart out and ruined my shirt, it’s time to go home."
He gently lifted her off the car bonnet, steadying her as she wobbled slightly. Amelia scrunched her nose. "I’m not drunk!" she declared, swaying slightly.
Edward raised a brow. "Yeah? Then walk in a straight line."
Amelia narrowed her eyes at him, then dramatically placed one foot in front of the other. She managed two steps before nearly tripping. Edward quickly caught her by the waist.
"Right," he smirked. "Totally sober."
Amelia huffed but leaned against him as he guided her to the car. He opened the door, helping her inside. Before closing it, he leaned in slightly and said, "Next time, try to accidentally drink juice instead of cocktails, hmm?"
Amelia stuck her tongue out at him before settling into the seat. Edward shook his head with a chuckle and shut the door, moving to the driver's seat.
After a while, Edward pulled the car to the side. Amelia blinked, looking around in confusion. "This isn’t home," she mumbled, turning to him.
"Wait here for a few minutes. I’ll be back," Edward said as he unbuckled his seatbelt.
Amelia quickly reached for his hand, holding onto him. "Where are you going?" she asked, her lips slightly pouting.
Edward chuckled at her clinginess. "Just for a minute, dear" he reassured her, gently squeezing her hand before stepping out of the car.
She watched him disappear into a nearby shop, her curiosity piqued. A couple of minutes later, Edward returned with a paper bag in hand. The moment he got inside, Amelia’s nose twitched at the familiar, mouthwatering aroma.
Edward handed her the bag, and she eagerly peeked inside. Her eyes lit up as she pulled out a warm serving of chicken nuggets and crispy fries.
A bright, cheerful smile spread across her face. "I was actually feeling hungry!" she beamed, grabbing a nugget. Before taking a bite, she turned to Edward and held it up to his lips. "You first," she insisted.
Edward smirked but complied, taking a small bite. Amelia happily ate as well, but soon, she paused her brows furrowing as if something was missing.
Edward, already knowing what she was looking for, smirked and handed her a small tub of chocolate ice cream.
Amelia’s eyes widened in surprise. "Do you have the power to read minds?!" she gasped dramatically. "How do you know so much Mr. Edward?"
Edward simply smiled, watching her childlike excitement as she quickly grabbed the ice cream tub from him.
"Because, dear" he said, resting his arm on the steering wheel, "I know you better than you think."
