Author POV
Edward carried Amelia toward the guest room, his heart heavy as he looked at her fragile condition. He felt upset seeing her like this, but Amelia, though grateful for his help, was deeply uncomfortable. It wasn't Edward himself who unsettled her, but the touch and closeness of any man made her uneasy. As they reached the door, she suddenly said, "Please stop!"
Edward frowned but immediately put her down, watching as she limped into the room on her own despite the pain in her ankle. He stood at the doorway, realizing that, to her, he was still a stranger.
"I'm sorry," he said softly, his voice tinged with regret. "Maybe I made you uncomfortable."
Amelia paused, guilt flickering in her heart. She realized she had been harsh, and as a guest in his house, she shouldn't have raised her voice. She turned to face him as he stepped inside, gesturing for her to sit on the bed. Grateful, yet feeling awkward, she complied while he pulled up a chair and sat in front of her.
"I'm sorry," she said hesitantly. "I shouldn't have raised my voice. You were only trying to help me... but..." She trailed off, struggling to express her discomfort.
"It's okay," Edward replied gently, cutting her some slack.
He reached into the drawer, pulling out her prescribed medicine and pouring a glass of water. "Take this," he said, holding the pill and glass out to her.Amelia frowned. "W-what medicine is this?"
"The doctor prescribed it to help you recover," Edward explained patiently, his calm demeanor unwavering.Though hesitant, Amelia eventually took the medicine, washing it down with the water as Edward watched her silently. Shortly after, her eyes grew heavy with sleep, and she lay down on the bed.
Edward quietly stood up, pulling the duvet over her as she drifted off. Before leaving the room, he bent down and placed a tender kiss on her forehead. He lingered for a moment, watching her peaceful face, before stepping out and gently closing the door behind him.
As the evening settled in, Amelia slowly opened her eyes, the quietness of the room making her feel disoriented. She swung her legs off the bed, limping slightly as she made her way to the door. Outside, faint voices reached her ears, growing louder as she approached the living room. A sharp, angry voice echoed through the space.
"What do you mean by she had an accident?!" a young woman yelled, her frustration directed at Edward.
Amelia peeked in, confused. She didn't recognize the woman or the man standing beside her, who was trying to calm her down. However, her gaze fell on two familiar faces Peter and Henry who stood silently next to the woman.
"What were you doing, Edward?!" the woman, Kelly, continued, her voice rising.
"Calm down, Kelly," the man beside her, Avi, urged. Kelly's anger boiled over as she pointed at Edward, accusing him of not taking proper care of Amelia.
"You should have taken better care of her!" Kelly exclaimed.
Edward remained composed, though his jaw tightened. "Mr Edward said it already that it was an accident. Calm down," Avi said, his tone steady to calm her"How can I Avi?!" Kelly snapped back and looked at Edward "Amelia had an accident and It's your fault! You're her-"
"What?" a soft voice interrupted. Everyone turned to see Amelia standing at the doorway, her expression a mix of confusion and curiosity.
"What do you mean?" Amelia asked, addressing Kelly. "He helped me. Why are you blaming him?"
Kelly faltered, her anger momentarily deflated as Edward quickly stepped in. "A-actually..." he began, hesitating. "I was driving the car, and you got into an accident because of me."
