Tryna understand what I want. Will I recognize it when it comes?
Walking back into my childhood home, talk about a house full... I didn't think my father would invite so many people. He knew I was introverted and Jacob wasn't into big parties.
Even friends from school and work, as well as Jacob's and my families, filled the backyard.
Everyone was packed like sardines in the backyard. I was truly grateful for my father, but it was a bit too much for me.
Grabbing a water bottle from the cooler, I heard voices coming from the living room.
Who could that be? The party was outside.
"I told him if he wants to get fucked up, be my guess," I heard a man laughing.
As I walked into the living room, I spotted my cousin Amber and Joseph her boyfriend, They were older than me but didn't act as such.
Well, mainly Joseph he was something else... Joseph stood close to Amber, who looked both shocked and embarrassed. They were a hilarious duo—she was the angel, and he was the troublemaker, always getting into some mischief.
"Hey, come here!" Joseph said, giving me a big hug. "It's been ages since we last saw you."
"Hi guys," I smiled looking at the both of them, the last time I had seen them was before moving.
Joseph stood tall, now with a small afro and salt-and-pepper beard. God, it's only been like 7 months... What are you talking about I asked looking between the two.
"Oh goodness, please don't get him started, we'll be here all day," Amber said rolling her eyes.
"This is what happened, Nicole. An old man tried to take my parking spot, so I told him, 'If you take this spot, I'll beat you up.' This guy is going to act like he was blind," Joseph said, as Amber interrupted him.
She exclaimed in disbelief, "He was blind!"
"Well, it's not like he should be driving in the first place," Joseph chuckled.
"Anyway, look at my baby!" Amber exclaimed, pulling me into a warm hug while gently rubbing my back. "I've missed you so much." She slowly pulled away, her eyes filled with affection.
"Where's my blue-eyed angel?" she asked, referring to Jacob.
Jacob was terrified of Joseph after their first meeting after church. He fled, leaving me to wonder if I had done something wrong, but it was just Joseph being Joseph.
