Terry pov
The rain fell harder, making me worry that my windshield might not withstand the powerful downpour.
In an attempt to improve visibility, I decided to lower the window and saw her truck. Hurriedly, I left my own vehicle and rushed towards her truck, but she wasn't there.
"Damn it!" I muttered in annoyance. With the rain making it difficult to see, I scanned the area, finding no footprints due to the relentless downpour.
Returning to my vehicle, I attempted to reach out to my mother for assistance in determining her whereabouts.
With each unanswered ring, my frustrations grew, leading me to toss my phone onto the empty seat beside me. Puzzling over where she could have disappeared, I mulled over the possibilities.
Clutching the steering wheel, I was at a loss trying to locate where she had disappeared. After starting up my truck, I proceeded to drive slowly, scanning my surroundings in hopes of spotting her.
The thought of facing my mother's teasing if I couldn't locate her made my anxiety spike. As I passed by a cluster of fallen trees, a small figure with a backpack and a bag caught my eye. Pulling up alongside her, I confirmed that it was indeed Nicole.
"Nicole, please get in the car," I urged, but she shot me an irritated glance.
"Terry, just let me be. Go away," she snapped, picking up her pace as I followed alongside her in my truck. "I can't stand you, but my mom made me com to get you, so just get in the truck," I said, blocking her path to keep her from leaving.
"Leave me alone, Terry!" she shouted, trying to maneuver past the vehicle. I shifted back and forth, preventing her escape as she kicked the front of my truck in frustration.
"Hey! This is a new truck—cut it out!" I yelled, stepping out as the rain poured down harder. The cold seeped in, and I knew I'd end up sick for dealing with Nicole.
"Look, if you don't leave me alone, I swear I'll mess up your truck!" she yelled, stepping back from where I stood.
I took a moment to catch my breath before decisively lifting Nicole and tossing her over my shoulder.
"It looks like we'll have to do things the hard way," I remarked as she protested, hitting my back as I carried her towards my truck.
"Put me down immediately! Help! Somebody help!" she cried out, struggling to break free from my hold.
"Please, Terry, let me go!" Nicole shouted in my ear, unaware of the futility of her cries for help in the midst of a Category 5 storm and the media's warnings to stay indoors.
"Nicole, just calm down," I responded firmly, reaching my truck at last.
