I jolt awake, sitting up in bed. "Holy sh-" I sigh, clutching my chest. "What?!" I shout.
Max flops back a bit, sitting on the floor. "Sorry, are you alright? You were like... Punching the air."
"I'm fine. " I say with a shrug. "I was just having a dream- a nightmare?" I sigh.
He nods, "Oh, alright. Uh- I'll let you go back to sleep now, Sorry." He climbs into his bed.
"Why were you awake?" I ask, lying back down in my bed and glancing over at him in his own bed.
He shrugs, "I dunno. I guess I just woke up when the rain ended." He says, his cheek on top of his hand on his pillow.
I nod. "Oh, yeah." I pause, biting my lip, "Sorry for shouting, you just scared me."
"It's okay, it's my fault anyway." He says.
"What time is it?" I ask, leaning over to check my phone. I squint my eyes as the bright light floods the room. "Shit, sorry." I fumble with the phone, turning the brightness down. "It's... Four."
"Oh, we might as well get up then." He sighs.
"Yeah, I guess." I say, but we both stay under our covers. "Are you excited for the city?" I ask, picking at my finger nails.
"Yeah, I hope it's not raining when we get there though, because I want to go to the beach first thing."
"Yeah, I think it should be fine though. The rain's mainly cleared up." I climb out of bed with a shiver, grabbing my clothes for the day out of my bag and slipping into them.
Max glances up at me from his phone. "If we leave soon we'll get there a bit earlier." I say, peering out the window.Max sighs, climbing out of bed, "Fine. I'll get ready." He says jokingly.
We get on the road 10 minutes later, listening to Max's music as well as other stuff. Just as I'd expected, we aproach the city at 12, the skyscrapers becoming visible over the hills. As soon as we get into the main part of the city driving gets pretty complicated, but we're able to make our way to the hotel an the car park by 12, dragging our bags inside the room I'd booked the other night, and finally changing into walking shoes.
We're both hungry from not eating much other than random biscuits occasionally on the drive, so we walk over to the beach to find somewhere that sells fish and chips. We sit down on the concrete blocks set up as benches along the beach, setting up the chips between the two of us. The wind blows our hair back, and we watch the people playing volleyball in the hot sand. "The air feels nice here." I say.
"Yeah. It's fresh, right?"
I nod, chewing the hot chip in my mouth. I squint my eyes, looking out into the distance. "There's some guy playing music all the way out there, so clearly it's allowed." I say, "If we go further that way-" I point the other way "-then you could definelty play."
"I dunno, I don't want to like... Bother people."
"Play something calm, like... Anything." I say, clickin my figners, "No, that's perfect. Play 'Anything'."
He shakes his head, looking down in the sand. "I will, just... Lets eat first." He smiles smally.
"Right. I'm not trying to like... Pressure you, anyway, I just think it'd be a fun experience."
He nods, "Yeah, of course. I was always planning to do it... I just needed some hyping, you know." He smiles, looking up and flipping his hair out of his eyes. "Oh- I guess we're all out of chips now." He sighs, standing up. "Lets go grab my guitar."
