CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE
day one
•
"OH god," charlotte groaned, collapsing back onto the couch of her trailer.
"tell me about it," isabela muttered, crashing down on the other one.
"if we have to do millions of retakes when filming those parts there's no way i'm not throwing the fuck up midtake."
the two had just returned from some trial run of trying out the equipment that will hook them into air for their scenes in zero gravity, and turns out it was pretty easy to accidentally get stuck spinning in circles and doing flips midair on repeat when connected to nothing but loose springy wires than it seemed.
"how was the spacesuit fitting?" isabela asked, trying to get the room to stop spinning.
"helmet and the gun weighed like a million pounds, but at least it's not an overheating material," charlotte mumbled, then sighing and curling into a small ball, facing the wall.
isabela turned her head to her, "you okay?"
"uh-huh," charlotte replied. but she wasn't fooling anyone, it was obvious she's been kind of down all day to anyone who looked close enough.
isabela got up and sat next to her, "you sure? y'know i noticed that you didn't even laugh when spike fell out of the wiring earlier and ate absolute shit."
charlotte gave a small smile and shrugged, "yeah. i don't know, just kind of a tough day. not just with like prep and everything, um my girlfriends leaving for tour tonight."
isabela frowned, "ahh, i see. why don't you call her right now before our call-time? we still got like fifteen minutes."
charlotte dramatically smothered her face in the pillow, "no point, i've been texting her all day but she's not responding at all cause she's so busy."
isabela chuckled and squeezed her shoulder, "c'mon just try her."
charlotte sighed and rolled onto her back, pulling out her phone and clicking onto gracie's contact and face timing her. it rang. and kept ringing. isabela and her stared at it intensely. and then it hit its last ring and went to voicemail. charlotte groaned loudly and thought for a moment, then smirking mischievously and going to their text conversations, opting to take a photo to send to her.
"i know how to get her to respond," she mumbled. "come here, take a pic with me."
a bit confused, isabela leaned in, their faces close together and beamed at the camera before charlotte took the picture and sent it to gracie, along with a message saying, 'hiii miss you! hope you're having fun getting ready! 🩷'
it took only three seconds after that message was delivered for her screen to light up with gracie's incoming facetime. charlotte grinned victoriously.
"hi babe!" charlotte smiled, answering the call.
"hi," gracie replied, looking closely at her screen and analyzing all she could see around charlotte. "what're you up to?"
"nothing, just in my trailer," charlotte replied before panning the camera towards isabela who was up and searching the mini fridge. "say hi!"
gracie narrowed her eyes but plastered on a smile, "hi, isabela!"
isabela popped her head up, "oh my god. hi, gracie! sorry, i'm a huge fan and am kinda fangirling right now," she nervously said.
"well, hopefully you two can meet at some point whenever we can see each other next," charlotte said.
"i for one hope not after what i overheard last night," mac grumbled from the background of gracie.
