HISTORY HAS BEEN MADE!

Starting tomorrow, January 23, same-sex marriage is officially legalized in Thailand, following its 120-day promulgation after being published in the Royal Gazette.

Now, couples of all genders can legally register their marriage!

“Finally..” Orm Kornnaphat said, smiling gently  to herself after she heard the news on the Morning radio. She walks slowly toward the kitchen counter where the whistling kettle pot full of tea is ready to be served and with the tender age of Sixty years old, she moved with natural grace almost as if time had decided to slow down solely for her within the familiar space of their small bungalow beach house in front of the white sands and calm sea.

The day started just like any other day for the past thirty two years now.  Before the first ray of sunrise could even have its chance to filter through their bedroom window, Ling, her partner would rouse from her sleep first and before stretching her arms to get away the numbness that it felt because of Orm making it a pillow at night, Ling would give her a gentle touch of a kiss on her forehead and she would stir from slumber, either only for her to get back to sleep or join Ling with her morning routine.

A soft click echoed all throughout that cozy kitchen as Orm switched off the stove and afterwards, carefully poured tea into her partner’s waiting cup, the smell of vegetal aroma wafting in the air. Taking a brief pause to indulge in her own comforting ritual, she swiftly prepared a steaming cup of her own coffee, the sound of brewing adding a soothing background melody, , then with sured step, delivered them to their small dining table where toasted bread and boiled eggs were waiting.

“Dear.. Ling! Breakfast is ready..” She called out. Her voice was heard all over their home. “Ling!”

She waited for a few minutes but hadn't heard the familiar chime of their back door so Orm shook her head and made her way towards where she knew her Partner was and as sure as water is wet, there, in the spacious backyard full of vegetable plants, Lingling Kwong was so busy replanting what looks like Marigolds and Lavender into the soil. Her back hunched and from her side view perspective, a thin sheet of sweat was visible in her forehead against the sun that's already up in the air,  she was so focused on her task that she didn’t even heard Orm approaching.

“I know you are complaining about your knees the other day but I was not aware that you’ve gone deaf, love..”

She nearly leaped out of the small chair that she had been sitting in, startled by the sudden sound of Orm's voice as Ling swiftly turned around, her eyes widening in surprise, only to be met with the sight of her beloved Partner. The initial shock painting on her face was quickly transformed into a tender look, causing an involuntary smile to form on her lips, brightening up her entire face.

“Hey, I’m sorry.. I was having fun with the flowers that I forgot the time.”

Orm crossed her arms and rolled her eyes playfully, “You said before that I'm the  only flower that you wanted, what happened now?”

“You’re still the only flower that I want.” She said, her voice, although playful, was full of assurance, “Those were just flowers to brighten up your vegetable garden and you know what, they are also effective plants for pest control! You can enjoy your veggies -pesticide free, Dear. I remember you complaining about the pest from your cabbages before.”
