"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

Y/n and Aran opened their bedroom doors at the same time, both of them rubbing their eyes and adjusting to the light in the hallway as their parents shouted in unison, their voices way too loud and cheerful for this early in the morning.

Balloons floated near the ceiling, party garlands stretched across the walls, and colorful confetti shot into the air as the siblings stepped out of their rooms.

Y/n stopped just outside of her room in the hallway, scratching her head as a lazy grin spread across her face whilst exchanging an amused look with Aran.

"Really?" Aran said with a chuckle, his voice still raspy from sleep. "You're still doing this?"

"Every year..." Y/n amusedly breathed out, covering her mouth when she felt a yawn come up.

"Come on, you know you love it!" Their dad teased, waving a hand to shoo them forward.

"Say cheese~" Their mom said, taking a picture before either of her children had a chance to process what was happening. The flash of the camera momentarily blinded them both, Aran groaning before leaning against the nearest wall.

Their mom showed the picture she took to her husband before they started singing happy birthday, their voices a little off-key but filled with affection.

Y/n and Aran stood side by side, slightly grinning as they let their parents enjoy the moment.

When the song ended, they stepped forward, both of them holding a cake—one for each of them. "Quick, blow out the candles and make a wish!"

Y/n rolled her eyes playfully but leaned in, blowing out the candles on her cake at the same time as Aran did with his.

"Ouuu~" Their mom coed, Y/n rolling her eyes when her brother asked her what she wished for.

"I can't tell, otherwise it won't come true." She shrugged before sticking out her tongue at him, Aran lightly shoving her shoulder.

"Okay," their mom said, clapping her hands together. "Now, go brush your teeth!"

"We have presents waiting for you downstairs, so hurry up." Their dad added with a wink before turning to make his way down the stairs, Y/n and Aran nodding firmly before heading to do so.

"What flavor is that?" Y/n asked her brother as she entered the kitchen, referring to the cake he was eating for breakfast.

"Vanilla." He answered plainly, watching Y/n scrunch up her nose in distaste.

Y/n shook her head before grabbing a knife, cutting a slice from her own cake. Tss, they better, she thought at the sight of chocolate filling, a small grin appearing on her lips.

"Hellooo~" Y/n had just taken the first bite of her cake when she heard her mother's voice call from the living room. "Are you guys gonna unwrap these presents or what?"

Y/n and Aran shared a look before they set their plates down, rushing out of the kitchen.

Y/n and Aran sat cross-legged on the floor in the living room, surrounded by big mountains of wrapped up gift boxes. Their parents sat on the couch, proud smiles on their faces whilst watching their kids unwrapping their presents, their excitement growing with each gasp or squeal.
