Run On - Jamie Bower, King Sugar
"Where the hell are you?" Lestrange, with now a clean face and wiped away blood stalked the hallway, his wand out.
They all heard the feminine laugh and they knew that it couldn't have been anyone else if not the women in the Manor. Were they trying to kill them? If they were still sitting down and enjoying their food, they would've been dead on the spot.
"Are you sure?" Avery spoke, he was hesitant. They wouldn't have been able to disappear from the hallway so fast and unnoticed. What he also knew, is that Riddle would've killed them himself if they attempted to kill the men. It was a long string of people trying to kill one another, but the point was that they wouldn't have done it.
He and Dirca barely spoke, the terrorisation of the innocent villagers being a hard matter in their relationship, but he knew it wasn't enough for her to attempt to kill him or support others in doing so.
"Am I sure our lives were just threatened again? Yes, I'm fucking sure. We all heard it, so don't back out now. Or do. We will deal with this with or without your moping ass, Avery." Safe to say Lestrange was on edge. His hand was gripping his wand so hard as if someone was trying to take it away.
They searched the ground floor, but everything around them was drowning in silence. The house elves were taking care of the mess in the dining hall and apart from them, there was no one else on the floor.
"This is stupid anyway, they would have run upstairs." Lestrange gestured for them to follow him and slowly stepped on the staircase, making sure to check the ceilings too. After all, they have just escaped one attempt to take away their lives, they wouldn't fall for another quite so soon.
"I'm not sure about this, too," Leonard spoke, even as he followed the others upstairs.
"Shut up, Rosier." Was all that Lestrange said before they walked into the hallway leading to all of the bedrooms. He raised his hand, making everyone halt and hold their breaths.
Absolute silence stood in the hallway, even the entire Manor as they listened to any possible sound or movement. Blood thumped in their ears, and adrenaline running high. It's not every day someone tries to get you killed, but for the Death Eaters, those attempts became more and more frequent.
"They are just hiding in their bedrooms, I know it." Lestrange shook his head when their listening didn't lead them to any fruitful conclusions.
"Or you are just overthinking it." Rosier pushed his point, earning himself a nod of Avery's.
"Am I overthinking this too?" Lestrange grabbed Rosier's sleeve and tugged him out of the way, as a moment later all the candles from the chandelier above him fell onto the carpet where he stood a moment ago. Abraxas was quick with his wand to extinguish the fire.
"Fuck-" Rosier breathed and all of them heard a familiar feminine laughter again, this time from the bedroom side of the hallway.
"Which one?" Lestrange bared his teeth, stalking further into the hallway, staring at the doors lined next to one another, "Who from them is brave enough?"
"I don't know, he was swearing too loud." Abraxas shrugged, following Lestrange further. He surely didn't appreciate the idea of being murdered in his own home.
"Piss off, imagine it is your hair burning on your head. You'd also curse." Rosier scowled, following the two further into the hallway too. The attempt to burn him alive didn't sit well with him.
