Me and Nate stood on the side of the room. Off where no one was around us and the music was a little quieter. He seemed very skeptical of what I was so urgently wanting to tell him.
There was a hint of confusion and worry in his eyes as well.
"So what's going on?" He asked.
"Listen, I need a favor from you. If it's a big deal then don't worry I'll figure something out." I told him.
"What is it? Is something wrong with you and Sam?"
"No it's not Sam." I paused for a second. God he has to not freak. "It's Dylan."
"Dylan? Who's Dylan?"
"Remember that kid I was telling you about? The one Austin and Max kind of went after?"
"Oh ya, that Dylan. What about him?"
"When I just went outside, it was to talk to him. But turns out. He's here. He just surprised me outside and I need you to let him stay with us at least for just tonight."
He froze in shock. And didn't reply. He's going to be mad now. Great.
"Nate-" I started to say but he spoke up at my voice.
"Don't Nate me. How can you trust him? How are you sure he's not just doing this for Austin and Max?"
"Nate I know him. He was my only friend in Reighmound. I know he wouldn't do that."
"And you wouldn't do it if your life depended on it?"
I went silent at that. Ok... he's got a point. But I have to trust Dylan. I looked away from Nate. My jaw clenching at the thought of what I'm going to do now.
"Alright, forget about it then. I'll figure something else out." I shrugged and went to walk away.
But he grabbed my wrist keeping me from leaving. I ripped my wrist out of his grip and looked at him angrily.
"I'm not going to let you just do something else about this. You're staying home tonight. And he can too just watch him." He told me.
I just nodded and looked away. Why'd this have to happen now? While we're here? This is horrible timing there Dylan. God but I can't be mad at him. This is obviously important.
Nate placed his hand on the small of my back and started leading me over back to the group. I managed to push the anger away and hide any sadness or confusion. Putting a smile on my face.
"You good?" Sam laughed as I walked to his side.
"Ya, I'm fine now." I laughed.
"Hey Sam." Nate spoke up, gaining both of our attention. "Wanna stay over tonight?"
"Ya, that'll be cool." Sam replied.
I gave Nate an "I hate you" look. He just smirked at me. Now I'll have to warn Sam a little right now.
The song changed again. Leigh dragged Gilinsky out onto the dance floor. As did Mallory with Johnson. Nate left us and walked over to what looked like John.
I sighed and looked up at Sam.
"Ok there is definitely something bothering you. What's going on?" He said grabbing onto my hands.
"Ok, before I go to into it. Just now, I'm alright and everythings just ok." I started. He stared at me confusingly. "That guy Dylan who just called me, he's a 13 year old kid, from my hometown. He's here in Omaha. And just surprised me outside. He's coming home with me tonight and there's something important he needs to talk to me about, involving me and some people."
