Darkness shrouded the vehicle that was parked down a narrow alley across from the rear entrance of the club. From the passenger seat, Zemo sat with a hard scowl on his face. His lip curled into a sneer as he saw Bucky emerge from the rear exit with your hand firmly clutched in his. If it hadn't been for Bucky, that could have been him. He could have owned a successful nightclub, he would be in control of the city, he could even have a beautiful woman like you hanging off of his arm.
Instead, he'd had to fight for every single thing he had. After his father was murdered, Zemo and his mother were left penniless. They no longer had the means to pay for their lavish lifestyle without Heinrich's support. Zemo tried to keep his father's business going, but Bucky moved too swiftly and harshly, taking everything Heinrich once possessed piece by piece. He gained the loyalty of Heinrich's men and before Zemo could even blink, his father's empire had crumbled and was replaced with Bucky's.
It'd taken years for Zemo to even become a big enough threat to register on Bucky's radar. In the beginning, Bucky didn't take Zemo seriously. He didn't think he was as strong as his father or that he was able to command respect, but he'd been wrong. Zemo was intent on showing Bucky just how strong he was. The ringing of his phone cut into his thoughts.
"Is everything in position?" Zemo asked
The man on the other end of the phone confirmed that everything was ready. A slow smile spread across Zemo's face.
"Good. Make sure everything goes to plan or you'll be the one dying instead of him." Zemo cut the call and sighed heavily.
"Take me home, Friedrich. I think I'm going to have sweet, sweet dreams tonight." Zemo chuckled.

"Y/n." A smooth baritone voice cut through the darkness.
You turned your head towards the voice and your eyes cracked open, heavy with sleep. Your surroundings were dark, illuminated only by the faint glow from the lights on the dashboard. Bucky looked over at you, his hand still holding tightly to yours while the other was wrapped around the steering wheel.
"We're almost home, kukla. It's time to wake up."
You groaned in protest, but opened your eyes fully.
"I was sleeping so well." You said through a yawn.
Bucky laughed lightly and rubbed his thumb over the back of your hand.
"I know, kukla, but you can sleep once I've fed you."
Bucky wasn't kidding when he said he lived outside the city. The dense buildings that decorated the scenery when you'd fallen asleep, had disappeared and were replaced by thickets of trees and open fields on either side of the car. Bucky lived a chaotic life, so it was a surprise that he chose such a remote location, so far away from his empire, for his home.
You straightened in your seat, another yawn working its way out of your mouth. Bucky murmured something to himself with a smile on his lips, but the only thing you could make out was the word 'adorable'. You felt yourself blush and your lips curve into a shy smile as you looked down at your lap. Bucky slowed to take the final turn to his house as you looked up to gaze out the windshield. Your brow furrowed in confusion when you saw two dark SUVs parked horizontally across the road.
Bucky slammed on the breaks and released your hand. He immediately reached for the gear shift, knowing that whatever was happening was anything but good. The doors of the SUVs opened and four men with automatic guns emerged from each vehicle. Your confusion melted into fear as they raised the guns and pointed them at the car. Bucky quickly shifted the car into reverse as the men began to shoot at you, but he didn't get far before two more SUVs swerved in behind him, cutting off your exit.
