One Year Later
"Y/n, can you hear me?" Bucky called out to you, but there was only the crackle of static.
"Y/n!" Bucky called again.
This time, the com in his ear crackled to life and he heard your voice.
"Sorry, got caught in a dead zone." You whispered.
Bucky breathed a sigh of relief as he heard your voice. This was your first mission as part of the team. You'd worked so hard to get your memories back and work through the things Hydra had done to you. There were still gaps in your memory, but you'd been able to reconnect with your family and remember the important things with help from Shuri.
Shuri was able to confirm that Hydra hadn't conditioned you yet, so at least you didn't have to go through the de-programming process. Bucky got you in contact with his therapist, Raynor, and she'd been helping you cope with your trauma. You were healthy and actively working on your recovery which was all Bucky ever wanted.
A few months ago, Tony had approached you about joining the team. You weren't sure at first, but after talking to Bucky he encouraged you to do whatever felt right for you. He'd become your confidant, your biggest supporter, and best friend. You went to him for everything, no matter how big or small. There was a camaraderie there from your shared experiences with Hydra and it'd bonded you together. There was no one you trusted more than Bucky. After talking with him, you decided to turn what you had originally seen as a curse, into a tool for good.
You'd gone through intense training, learning from almost every member of the team. They all had certain skills they excelled in and you were eager to learn from them all. The time spent training didn't just allow you to hone your skills, but also bond with the team. Your relationship with Bucky was unshakable, but if you wanted to be an Avenger, you needed to connect with your other teammates as well.
"Okay, doll. The room you're looking for is up the stairs and down the hallway to your right, second door on the left. Once you download the information, head out. I'll be in the car waiting on you."
"Bucky, I've never asked," you murmured through your com, "why do you call me, doll?"
"Maybe cause you're as pretty as a doll, Y/n." Bucky chuckled.
You held back a laugh as you approached the stairs of the mansion, but you felt yourself blush. You were at a charity ball held by the Secretary of State. Fury suspected him of being associated with the Hydra faction that had held you captive, so your mission was to copy his personal hard drive for any evidence to corroborate that theory.
"Come on, Bucky. What's the real reason?"
"I'm from the forties, it's just an old school term of endearment."
"Aww, you think I'm endearing?" You teased him.
Making Bucky blush was one of your favorite things to do, so any chance you had to make his cheeks flush that adorable pink color, you took it. Bucky cleared his throat through the com.
"Focus on the mission, doll." You could hear how flustered he was by his tone, but you decided not to push him...yet.
Your eyes scanned the room, looking for anyone you could commit to memory in case you needed to make a hasty escape. You found your target in a tall, latino man who was clearly serving as security for the event. You scanned his appearance from top to bottom as you began ascending the stairs quickly, but cautiously. Thankfully, Tony had used his tech and designed a dress especially for your powers. It took on whatever appearance you required of it, matching your shifting abilities seamlessly.
