Bucky's body slammed against the door again as he tried desperately to get inside the cell that you were currently locked inside of. His metal fist beat against the door repeatedly, but all he managed to do was dent the steel. His anger and frustration was rising, but fear was creeping in steadily. He cursed himself for letting you talk him into going into the cell alone. Regardless of what you said, the Joker was dangerous and Bucky should've been with you.

"Don't you have some type of override, Stark?" Bucky grunted as he hit the door again.

"Of course I do," Tony replied indignantly, "doesn't really help when they take out my whole power grid though."

Tony scanned through a diagnostic on the gadget strapped around his wrist, but it wasn't fast enough for Bucky. He stopped for a moment and strained to hear through the thick metal. There were soft murmurs, but nothing clear enough he could make out.

"Damn it, Stark. I need to get in there!" Bucky yelled over his shoulder.

"Don't get your panties in a wad, Barnes. I'm working on it." Tony's shot back.

"Let me try, Buck." Steve stepped up beside Bucky, his shield in his hand, and took aim at the door.

Steve launched the shield hard against the door, but all it did was come flying back at him.

"This is fucking useless!" Bucky gritted out. "Y/n is stuck in there with that psycho. I should be there with her."

Bucky felt the panic rising in his chest as he tried breaking through the door again. You were so confident that everything would be fine, but he should've listened to his gut and fought a little harder to be in the cell with you. He turned quickly and marched over to Tony.

"Why isn't the back-up power kicking in?" Bucky asked angrily.

"What didn't you understand about 'they took out the power grid'?" Tony asked, never taking his eyes off the holographic screen in front of him. "I said I'm working on it, Barnes. I may be a genius, but it still takes time to get everything re-routed."

"And while you take your sweet time, Y/n is stuck in there with him." Bucky pointed at the door behind him. "Do you not care that she's in danger, Tony?"

"Of course I care." Tony finally looked at Bucky.

"Well, it sure as hell doesn't seem like it." Bucky shot back. "You're being a little too calm for the situation."

"And you're being a bit too crazy," Tony responded, "Why is that? Are you two dating or something?"

Bucky scoffed and ran his hands through his hair, ignoring Tony's question. He walked back to the cell door and pressed his ear against the cold metal, trying to listen for any sounds of a struggle on the other side of the door. Tony's eyes wandered back to the screen as he resumed trying to divert power to the cells below the compound. Steve moved to stand next to Bucky, his worried gaze locked on his friend.

"Say what you want to say, Steve." Bucky muttered.

"Are you two dating?"

"Not exactly." Bucky said softly.

It wasn't a lie, but it also wasn't the truth. The two of you weren't dating by normal societal standards, but neither of you spent your time with anyone else but each other outside of the team. All Bucky knew was that he was viciously protective of you and he didn't want to spend his time with any other woman except you. When he imagined certain events in his life and how they looked, they always included you.

Steve nodded, accepting the vague answer at that moment, but Bucky knew he'd have more questions later. Footsteps rang out down the hall and Bucky moved quickly to face whoever was running towards them. In the dim red lights, it made it hard to tell who was coming, but Nat's voice called out to them.
