28- Jealousy And A Stupid Burger

Summary: A smooth talker and some purple sauce??

The constant sound of beeping and the receipt printer were what was getting me through the lunch rush. 

I haven't seen Jax since open, so I hope he hasn't gotten anyone into any trouble yet.

I knew Gangle put him on drive through duty, so when I didn't have any customers to serve I made my way back. I saw him boredly leant against the counter, pushing the button on the cash register repeatedly.

“Hey there, “ I must have startled him but he quickly recovered and casually  sat on the counter behind him. 

“Hey there, sugarcube.  Thought you'd never stop by.”

“Well,  after the rush I think I'll take my thirty minutes.  Care to join me?” I asked, lightly kicking at the greasy tile below us.

He smirked and leaned closer to me.  “Sure.  But I don't think lunch is the only thing on your mind,” Jax's bold statement made my face flush bright red and I look away, grinning. 

“Possibly…”

Jax laughs and quickly kisses my forehead before addressing the NPC that pulled up to the window. I froze before smiling, shaking my head and turning around only to find Gangle with a pout.

“No pda in front of the customers! It's strictly forbidden to be romantically involved with another employee.”

I fake saluted and smiled at her, humoring her. “Yes, ma’am!”

She smiled before walking off, probably to bother other employees.

I looked back at Jax one last time before walking back to the register and doing my job with Pomni and I occasionally making side conversation.

I’m talking with Pomni during a particularly slow time before a looming shadow covers my body.  “Can I help you- Mr. Orbsman! H-How can I help you?” I smiled as prettily as possible at the tall, bubble like figure.

Ragatha comes up behind us, smiling. “Oh, it’s Orbsman!”

Pomni looked confused. “Who, now?”

“Orbsman. He was in a previous adventure. He sweet talked Sugar over here so well- got her head over heels! Jax hates him.”

I was sure nobody but Pomni would truly understand. Considering her happenings with Gummigoo from her second adventure.

Orbsman sputtered his order at me and I dreamily put it into the register. I heard Jax loudly sigh from behind me somewhere.

“Ugh, I hate this guy!” He exaggerates.

“Never say you hate the customer while the customer is still here,” Gangle told Jax.

“But look at him! He’s all over my- Sugar!”

I giggle. “Shut up, Jax. Number 57 coming right up, Mr. Orbsman~”

I hear Gangle reprimanding Jax in the background as Orbsman walks away.

About a minute later, a rude customer walks up and taps the counter in front of Pomni. “Um, yeah, excuse me, little jester? I’d like to order the stupid burger. Last time I ordered it here, they forgot to add the sauce that makes you stupid. Don’t forget the sauce!” they yelled at Pomni. I raised a brow. Was that a thing we had?

“Is that a thing we have?”

“Yes. I order it all the time. I’m addicted,” the NPC twitch before going to find a seat.

“Okay then, one stupid burger. Hey, Sugar, you think you can cover for me while I head to the bathroom real quick?” Ragatha asks me and I nod before heading over to the sandwich station to start making the stupid burger.

I place down the bun, the freshly made burger, and the rest of the toppings before I reach for a bottle that says ‘Stupid Sauce’ and grab it. It looks weird, and before I can think, I put some on my finger and try it.

The world around me goes dark and I have tunnel vision as I look around.

The first person I see walking towards me is Jax, looking handsome and tall as ever with a worried look on his face.

My brain goes numb and the last thing I remember is Jax catching me before I fall.

{JAX POV}

What just happened?

I look over to see Sugar making burgers instead of Ragatha and since I’m slow at the window I go check up on her.

She eats some weird purple sauce before falling.

“You good, Sugarcube?”

The only thing I get in response is a soft hiccup and a giggle before I feel her arms wrap around my neck.

“Heehee, you’re so aggressively attractive, Jax. I don’t know why. Do you know why?” Her words are drawn out and slurred and I smile, shaking my head down at her.

“I think you should clock out early, Sugarcube. This isn’t a good look on you.”

She waves me off and wobbly stands to her feet before walking up the front counter with Pomni.

“I’ll be fineeeeeee.”

Yeah, she won’t be fine.
