35- Adventure Appeal

Summary: when the gang returns from their wild sea adventure, they have a debate with Caine.

SUGAR POV

So…after wrestling Jax’s body out of a giant octopus’ grasp, we were eaten by a large whale. To which we had to climb out of its blowhole to escape. Then Pomni was taken away by a shark, which we had to tickle to get it to let her go.

This is all true. And it all definitely happened.

No point in reiterating the entire story.

Anyways…

Without knowing what exactly happened on Ragatha, Gangle, Zooble, and Kinger’s side, we all crawled out of the portal Caine had opened when we had made it to where the others were.

"Welcome back, my candy hearts and paper flowers!” Caine’s unnaturally happy voice greeted us as we gathered our wits.

I gave him a glare. “You f&%$#g a#$%&e.”

Pomni falls to the ground, sick.

Ragatha wrings out her dress. “Well, that sure could have gone better. But, I’m sure the next adventure will be less…uh, wet?” She unsurely states.

Pomni gives her a glare.

Kinger approaches us. “Hey, Ragatha? Can you help me count my eggs before they hatch?”

Ragatha smiles. “Oh yeah, of course! Wait, what?” she says as she walks away with Kinger.

Jax leans down towards Pomni, smirking. “Looks like that oh-so-positive Ragatha charm is starting to wear off, huh?”

I roll my eyes. “Can it, fish food.”

Jax places a hand on his chest with a gasp of fake offense. “How rude, I thought you cared about me!”

I couldn't help but give a little smile before getting up and plopping on a loveseat in the seating area.

Zooble, out of breath, coughs. “Looks like this was a home run, eh?”

Caine floats over. “Oh Zooble, you mismatched cash-piano. I’LL TEAR YOU TO PIECES- Constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated!” He glitches, making me scoot away in my seat.

Zooble snickers, closing their eyes. “But never acknowledged.”

Caine grows upset. “Alright, thats it! Everyone besides Zooble and Sugar get over here, now!” he snaps his fingers and everyone appears at the couches.

Caine pulls out a notepad and clears his throat. “ Everyone, I'm going to pitch to you some adventure ideas, and I'm going to ask you to give me your honest opinions on them,” he says before looking down at his notes.

Jax plops down next to me on the couch, resting his elbow on my shoulder comfortably. “I was gonna sleep.”

I roll my eyes and jab his side with my finger. “When are you not sleeping, Cottontail?”

“Oh shut it, Sugarcube.”

“Alright! So I've got an adventure where you all tour my amazing chocolate factory, and get killed off one by one from OSHA violations, one where a sentient cardiovascular system goes to war against the United States military, and one where you have to survive in a post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland with a telepathic talking dog who's mean to you the whole time! What do you think?”

Caine pitched his ideas and honestly…I hated them.

“Yeah, no. No thanks, Caine,” I say, shaking my head.

Jax looks down at me with a smirk. “What, you don't wanna go to war with a bunch of organs, shortcake?”

“Not on my bucket list, no.”

Ragatha nods along. “Yeah. All of those sound pretty…uh, dark?”

Caine looks surprised. “I can’t tell a compelling story where nothing bad happens! Where’s the intrigue, the stakes!?”

“Not to mention the ssssssex appeal!”

Caine looks weirdly at Bubble- well, we all do, really.

“What are you talking about?”

Zooble pipes in with their own input. “You know, you could always try the suggestion box again. I honestly didn’t hate the last one we did with it.”

Behind Zooble, Caine looked murderous before calming back down again. “You…didnt hate it?”

Zooble shrugs. “It was kind of refreshing doing something grounded in reality.”

“Yeah, I…really didn’t mind that one, either,” Pomni spoke, raising her hand slightly. I couldn’t help but smile a little. It's nice she was finally able to enjoy something with her time here in the circus.

Caine scratches his gummy forehead in intrigue. “Well, what about the rest of you?” He looked at me, Jax, Ragatha, and Gangle.

“Uh-I don’t-”

“-did not enjoy that one in the slightest-”

“-would rather not think back on-”

“-I’m getting violent,-”

“-a little tipsy, ya know, and uh-”

“-and I’m going to kill Ragatha.”

Jax had finished later than we all had with our explanations, earning a side look from each of us. He only looked off with a smug look on his face.

So I step on his foot.

He flinched and whispered in my ear. “I’m getting you back for that, later.”

I leaned back to rebuttal. “Oh yeah? I’d like to see you try.”

“Well, how am I gonna please everybody if you all like different things?!” Caine shouts, exasperated.

Zooble rolled their eyes. “Maybe just keep your adventures open at all times and let us do whatever we want, when we want,” they suggest to which Caine gasps.

He looks over at bubble covering his mouth/head and loudly whispering.

"Are you hearing this, Bubble? The toybox character wants us to leave the other intelligent AIs to run for a prolonged period of time."

“Disgusting!”

“Am I not supposed to be hearing you-”

“ZIP IT!” Caine snaps his fingers, a zipper appearing on Zooble’s face.

Zooble looks shocked before scoffing “What did you even zip up? I don’t have a mouth.”

Caine seems to think for a moment before snapping in realization. “Okay, well, how about this? We’ll do a lightning round, going through all suggestions in the suggestion box in rapid succession! And if you don't like one you can all vote to skip it!”

Pomni stepped back in fear. “What, like….now?”

“That’s right! So, grab your bones and pop your pansies cause…HERE! WE! GO!”

A large portal appears in the sky, beginning to suck all of us in.

“I just wanted to relax!”

“I was gonna sleep!”

“Wait, didn’t we just finish an adventure-!?”

And when we teleported into the first suggestion, only by the title did I figure out whos adventure this was:

“Hi, everyone! In today’s episode of ‘Poach Everything’, I’m going to be hunting the critically endangered red ribbon rhinoceros!”
