I looked at him and I was speechless. This man was acting like a dog with a bone, and he wasn't letting go. I don't blame him. I mean a part of me has always wanted to be yearned for like this, but knowing that timing is everything makes it all the more devastating.
"Alex, you cant just declare that you'll wait for me. This isn't a Jane Austen novel." I stated and he chuckled.
"I'll drive you home and you can take some time to think about it. I don't expect you to make a decision today, you had a long night and probably an even longer day ahead of you." I nodded in agreement and with that, we were back on the road.
We didn't really talk during the drive home, but it wasn't uncomfortable either. I think I've become so overwhelmed by everything that's been happening that I've become emotionally drained from it all. I need a break.
After Alex dropped me off at my apartment, I got my laptop out and started looking at traveling sites. With Thanksgiving around the corner, I had to think about where I'm going. I'm not going to be in a good place with Jack for a while, so maybe a trip home will do me some good. I locked in my flight to Maryland and had to turn my phone back on to get the code for the verification of the payment and saw that I missed a call from Elena. I called her back right away.
"What is going on? Jack has been in the other room talking to Zack for an hour." Elena said and I sighed.
"I told him I needed some space." I said and she was quiet for a second.
"When did that happen? Less than 48 hours ago you were telling me how excited you were about moving forward with him, and last night you were dancing and smiling." She said.
"Jack slept with Mel-"
Before I could finished she interjected, "Yeah he told you that already."
"But he failed to mention that it was the night of Alex's wedding. After he punched his best friend and left me, he went back to his hotel room with her. I can get over him sleeping with her, but he did it intentionally to hurt me and I can't get over that."
"Oh my god, Summer I'm so sorry. I promise I didn't know, if I did I would've told you right away."
"I know, and I would've told you but I didn't want to take away from your night."
"Thank you for trying to protect me, but next time tell me. You don't just get to be there for me, you have to let me be there for you too. So how are you dealing?"
I softly chuckled, "I'm doing the best that I can. I booked a flight to Maryland for the holidays."
"Honestly you need a break from the guys. They're so wrapped up in their own feelings that they can't see how twisted and confusing this all has been for you." She said.
"I'm at fault too, it's just that new information keeps coming out and I don't know what to think anymore."
"You know I don't like to interfere-"
I cut her off, "You absolutely do" I chuckled.
"Okay, I do. But I'm going to shut this down, it's become too much. Like I have to hear from Jack that you got belligerent at my party, which you really haven't done since high school. I'm getting worried." She stated and I sighed.
"I am too. Sometimes I'm scared that I'm going to become my mother."
"Babes, you have too big of a heart to ever become her, and I simply won't let you."
"Thank you. I have to start packing, my plane leaves in the morning."
"Okay give extra love to Beck and Elijah from me. Bye."
