For one week, Summer avoided all of us, Mel included. She didn't know what anybody had or hadn't said about that night, she just wanted to forget it all. Maybe she was ready that night, to give up her virginity, but she wanted it to be because of love, not drunken lust. She never wanted to end up like her mother, she made that clear to everyone in her life, but at the same time she couldn't help her actions. So she avoided us... that was until the Thursday of her last week in Baltimore.
I had locked myself in my room for a week. Whenever anybody had come by the house asking for me, I told Beck I was sick and I didn't want to see anyone. But Beck could only stall for so long before she sat down with me and asked me what was wrong. So I told her what happened that night, and she understood. But she also reminded me that it was my last week, that on Sunday morning my mom would be here to pick me up and take me away for the school year. Then she went to work, leaving me all alone in the house. There was a knock on the door, but it wasn't my boyfriend, it was his best friend. I opened the door slowly and Alex came in.
"You're alive!" He said just a little too loud. I closed the door.
"Is it really such a surprise, I mean you watched me leave your house still breathing." I stated as I walked into the living room and sat down on the couch.
"Why'd you leave and why haven't you been answering anybody?" He asked and sat across from me on the coffee table.
"If it hadn't been for you, I would have lost my virginity that night." I said.
"I'm sorry Summer... but to be fair you were in my room."
"No, thank you Alex. I was going to make a mistake, but you stopped it. I mean not that having sex with Jack would be a mistake, but I'm just not sure if I'm ready. I've always told myself that when I lose my virginity it has to be with the person I love and the person who loves me. So thank you."
"I'm glad to be of service... so why have you been dodging everyone else?" He asked.
"I'm sure they all know what went down that night." I stated and he shook his head.
"Only Jack, you, and me know what happened at the party. Everyone's just wondering where you've been so they've been accepting those bull shit excuses. You've got to call Jack and explain, he'll understand."
"What about the next nine months? Is he good with long distance? Or is this merely a summer fling?"
"Summer, I honestly have no idea about what will happen to you guys in the future, but what I do know is that this isn't some summer fling to Jack. He's fallen for you, hard, I've never seen him so taken by a girl before. I can't believe I'm saying this, but don't throw this away."
"You're a good friend, Alex." That would be his downfall. "Just how can I approach him? I've been avoiding him for the last week."
"You love romantic movies, I think you can come up with something brilliant."
I pulled him into a hug, "Thank you."
The hug continued a little longer than it should have, not that it was bad, but it could have been. Alex left and I got out of my pyjamas and into:
