Hyunjin glanced up from his phone, and for a moment, neither of us spoke.
The pink buzz cut threw me off completely. His hair had always been one of his defining features—flowing, silky, dramatic. But now? This was bold, almost rebellious. Combined with his effortlessly stylish outfit, he looked like he belonged in the streets of Harajuku rather than standing outside my hotel room.
"Surprised?" His lips curled into a lazy smirk.
I blinked. "Uh—yeah? What the hell are you doing here?"
Hyunjin slipped his phone into his pocket and shrugged. "Just got to Japan a few hours ago. Figured I’d say hi to an old friend."
"At my hotel room?" I crossed my arms.
He chuckled. "I have my ways."
Typical.
"
I folded my arms tighter, trying to process this. "Wait—so you’ve been in Busan, off the grid, and now you randomly pop up in Tokyo, at my door? Am I missing something?"
Hyunjin’s smirk faded just slightly. "I needed some space. A lot of things have been… complicated lately."
That wasn’t an answer, but I didn’t push. Instead, I exhaled and reached for my key card. "Well, since you’re here, you might as well come in. I need to change out of these heels before my feet give out."
Hyunjin stepped inside, glancing around my hotel room as I kicked off my shoes and stretched. "Nice place," he commented. "Calvin Klein treating you well?"
I shot him a look. "You heard about that?"
"I keep up with things."
"Right." I sat on the edge of the bed, rubbing my sore ankles. "Yeah, it’s been insane. My first fashion show went way better than I expected. And now they’re talking about bigger things, a manager, more gigs… It’s a lot."
Hyunjin leaned against the wall, watching me. "And how do you feel about all of it?"
I paused. "Excited. A little overwhelmed, but mostly excited. It’s crazy how fast things are moving."
"Fast is an understatement," he muttered. "You were a JYP trainee a few months ago, and now you’re walking for Calvin Klein in Tokyo."
"Life’s unpredictable."
"Tell me about it." He rubbed a hand over his buzzed hair, and for a second, something flickered in his expression—something I couldn’t quite read.
I tilted my head. "What’s really going on, Hyunjin? You disappeared for weeks, and now you show up looking like this?" I gestured at him. "I know you, and I know when something’s up."
He hesitated. "It’s… nothing you need to worry about."
"That’s a lie."
He exhaled, shaking his head. "Look, I just needed to clear my head, alright? And I wanted a change." He gestured to his hair. "Do you like it?"
I stared at him for a second before grinning. "Honestly? You look hot."
Hyunjin laughed, the tension breaking for a moment. "Glad to know I still have my charm."
I rolled my eyes, but before I could say anything else, my phone buzzed.
Chan: Hey, Jangmi. Just finished practice. You good?
I smiled, quickly typing back.
Me: Yeah, I just got back to my hotel. Everything’s fine.
When I looked up, Hyunjin was watching me carefully. "Chan?"
