Chan leaned against the edge of the kitchen counter, arms crossed, jaw tight. The apartment was too quiet, except for the faint hum of the fridge and the steady tick of the clock on the wall. He had given them enough time to dance around the truth, but he was done waiting.
“Start talking.” His voice was sharp, cutting through the tension like a blade. “Everything. Now.”
Chloe scoffed, folding her arms as she slumped onto the couch. “What’s there to explain? You already know who’s behind it.” She tilted her head, lips curling into a smirk. “HYBE wanted you gone. We made it happen.”
Hana, sitting beside her, shifted uncomfortably. “Chloe—”
“No,” Chan snapped, eyes locking onto Chloe. “I want details. How long have you been playing me?”
Chloe exhaled heavily, dragging her fingers through her hair. “I was a trainee at HYBE. They promised me a debut if I did this.” Her gaze flickered toward Hana before returning to him. “So, we got planted here. Simple as that.”
Chan’s fingers twitched, but he kept his expression unreadable. “And Liliana?”
At her name, Chloe’s eyes darkened. “I met her on her first day in the dorms. I hated her immediately.” She leaned forward, voice dripping with disdain. “A Black girl—of all people—being accepted into the most promising group at JYPE? Are you kidding me? She didn’t deserve to be there, so I made sure Hana got close to her.”
Hana’s expression was unreadable, but when she spoke, there was a hesitance Chan didn’t miss. “I did befriend her, but not because of Chloe.” Her voice softened, just slightly. “I actually liked Liliana. She was a good person.”
Chloe scoffed. “That’s rich.”
Hana ignored her. “The plan was simple. I made sure to bump into you, Chan.” She smirked, eyes glinting with amusement. “Messed up your shoes so you’d either humiliate me or let me get close. Either way, I’d have something to use later—evidence, leverage, whatever HYBE wanted.” She tilted her head. “But then Liliana… she stepped in. Took the heat for me.”
Chan’s stomach churned. The image of Liliana standing in front of him, taking his anger, flashed through his mind. He had been played from the start.
Chloe grinned. “It was perfect. Her hero complex made things even easier. And when you started softening toward her? That’s when everything went to hell.”
Hana sighed. “I didn’t want to ruin her. Chloe was satisfied when you kept bullying her. She thought she’d eventually give up and leave. But Liliana…” Hana trailed off, eyes flickering with something unreadable. “She didn’t break. And then you—” She exhaled sharply, crossing her legs. “You ruined everything.”
Chan’s brows furrowed. “What?”
“You paid for her hair, nails, skincare, a massage, an outfit,” Chloe spat, voice laced with disgust. “Like she was some damn queen.” Her eyes narrowed. “That’s when I told the company.”
Chan clenched his jaw. “So, HYBE decided to tail us.”
Chloe nodded. “Yeah. And when you finally confessed, they sent me in closer to Liliana. To get details. To track your relationship.” She hesitated before adding, “Your trip to Jeju? She only told me before leaving.”
Chan’s heart sank.
Hana gave a small, almost regretful smile. “She told HYBE immediately. They had someone tail you the entire time.”
Chloe chuckled, leaning back. “Then we made sure she saw the pictures. We printed them out, pasted them all over the company. We needed to break her down. To throw you off balance.”
