I exhaled slowly, rolling my shoulders as I stepped forward, stretching my wings with a measured flick. The golden glow shimmered briefly along the edges of the black feathers as the sunlight filtering in through the reinforced windows caught them. It had been a while since I really let loose against Samsara, and I could feel the anticipation humming through my muscles. "Frei," I called out, my voice steady. "Activate Aegis Sanctum Training Protocol."
A low, mechanical hum vibrated through the floor as SCP-2897, whom I named Frei, complied without hesitation. Steel barriers slammed down over every entrance and exit, locking the training bay into a self-contained battlefield. The moment the last panel secured itself, a faintly glowing energy barrier rippled along the walls—a safeguard in case things escalated beyond conventional limits. No one was getting in. No one was getting out. Not until I said so.
I drew Arashi no Ikari, my nodachi, from its sheath with a slow, deliberate motion. The blade thrummed with barely-contained energy as I spun it once in my grasp, adjusting my stance. Across from me, the Samsara team stood ready. Four towering, cybernetically enhanced warriors, their metal frames gleaming under the fluorescent lights. Irantu, ever the strategist, met my gaze with cold calculation, already analyzing a hundred possible outcomes. Onru flexed her fingers, subtle golden runes flickering along the seams of her arms as she activated internal thaumaturgic enhancements. Munru cracked his knuckles, the servos in his arms whirring as he shifted into a more aggressive stance, eager for a fight. Nanku, nearly motionless, tilted her head slightly—watching. Waiting. Calculating the right moment to strike.
"Third time's the charm, right?" I said, smirking. "Let's see if you've finally figured out how to put me down." Behind me, Clementine and Iris stood at the ready, their thaumaturgic influence already weaving into the air like unseen threads. I could feel it—the reinforcements, the layered defenses, the way my movements would hit harder, faster. Irantu didn't waste time. He lifted a fist and brought it down sharply in a silent command. The fight was on.
Munru was the first to lunge—predictable. His sheer weight alone cracked the reinforced flooring as he closed the distance, a devastating overhead strike aimed straight at me. I twisted, wings snapping open to carry me sideways just as the impact shattered the ground where I'd stood. Fast. But not fast enough. I retaliated instantly, pivoting midair and bringing Arashi no Ikari down in a clean, diagonal arc. Sparks erupted as my blade clashed against Munru's reinforced forearm plating, carving a deep gash through the outer layers of his cybernetic enhancements. He barely had time to react before I snapped my leg up in a vicious counter-kick, sending him skidding backward.
Nanku took advantage of the moment. I barely caught the blur of her stealth systems activating before she was behind me, a monomolecular blade flashing toward my spine. I didn't dodge. I let my wings move for me. A sharp, metallic clang echoed as the reinforced feathers of my left wing snapped upward, intercepting the strike before it could land. Nanku's blade scraped uselessly against the hardened structure—then I spun, faster than she expected, slamming my right wing outward with full force. She was thrown backward, colliding hard with Irantu as he moved to flank me.
