Last chapter in The Foundation:

Ji-Hu faces Hoya in a brutal sparring match in a battle fueled by centuries of unresolved conflict. Hoya attacks with relentless fury, her foxfire and claws seeking to tear Ji-Hu apart, while Ji-Hu relies on strategy and illusions to counter her overwhelming strength. As the fight escalates, both fighters push themselves beyond their limits, turning the match into a deadly war rather than a test of skill. Spectators watch in tense silence, recognizing that this is not just about combat but about years of pain, betrayal, and unresolved emotions. Ji-Hu lands a decisive strike, but Hoya refuses to yield, driven by a desperate need to break her opponent. The fight reaches its climax when Hoya pins Ji-Hu down, claws poised to end her life—only to falter at the last moment, overcome by exhaustion and lingering emotion. As they both collapse from their injuries, their bond remains fractured but not entirely beyond repair. With the fight over, the battlefield resets, but the scars of their past remain, lingering as the next challenge looms.

The air was still heavy, still buzzing with the lingering tension from the last fight. Blood had been spilled, grudges had flared, and while the battle was over, its weight clung to the room like a storm that hadn't fully passed. Claire's shoulders were tense, her expression carefully neutral, but I wasn't blind. Her fingers twitched at her sides—small, but noticeable. The way she held herself too still. The way her gaze kept flickering, just for a second, toward the medbay doors.

Ji-Hu was stable. But Claire wasn't. I sighed. "Claire." Her head snapped toward me, sharp, but I just met her gaze evenly. "She's alive. She'll be fine. Sarah's got it handled." Claire swallowed, but didn't say anything. I tilted my head slightly. "You need to focus. I don't need you distracted in a fight like this." A pause, then my voice softened just a fraction. "Ji-Hu wouldn't want you to be." That got through to her. Her fingers curled into loose fists, then relaxed. A slow, steady breath. She nodded once. "Right." Good.

I turned my attention back to both of them. "Listen closely." My voice cut through the air, drawing them both in. "Claire, I'm not just testing your ability to overwhelm Iris. I want every part of you in this fight. That means brute strength won't be enough—you're going to use all of it. Your demonic magic. Your ontokinesis. Your eldritch abilities. Don't think of them as separate tools. Think of them as one. A full extension of yourself."

Claire shifted slightly, her tail flicking once behind her. "And if I break her?" Her tone was teasing, but I caught the hesitation underneath. Iris scoffed. "As if you could." I shot them both a look before Claire could respond. "You won't." I turned to Iris. "Because you will not let her." Iris nodded once, serious. I continued. "Your defenses will be pushed. I need you to prove they're strong enough. You're good at reinforcing, but I need better reaction speed. Better adaptation. If she finds a crack, patch it before it breaks."
